THE best coach in HD?? Topic

Not to toot my own horn but I've been doing pretty well in D2 wooden lately.

5 championship games with 4 titles in the last 7 seasons. 225-15 record over that stretch.

In 42 seasons in D2 I've made the title game 10 times.

Grand Canyon is, IMHO, the best DII location. Congrats and keep it up.

More power to you hawkstang. I am gun shy about D2/D3 after my experiences in 2.0. As I get more comfortable I might add another team in another world and move one of them to D2 FHSU.

Thanks for the nominations. I've had some luck. Especially in Phelan. I'd like to nominate GeneFerell. The dude kicks my butt all the time, plus he's got some hardware. Every time I turn around snewell12 seems to be winning a title.

I think anyone who can take a team like Hawaii in D1 or one of the Alaska teams in D2 and keep them in regular contention for sweet 16 or better needs to be on the list. There are some great coaches out there bringing greatness to those programs. Can't imagine being good enough yet to keep one of those teams at that level year in and year out.

Jsajsa was the best DIII coach ever. He stopped playing when they rolled out 3.0.
Absolutely agree. I played against a long list of great coaches while playing D3. I've always looked for the hardest conference to join so I could play against them. And I also played against Jsajsa for many many seasons. And not taking anything away from the other coaches, but Jsajsa was an absolute beast. He was almost unbeatable when he was taking the game seriously. Sometimes he would put it on cruise control for a few seasons and do okay, but when he really wanted to win, he did and he made it look easy. I learned so much from him. I wouldn't be the coach I am today if not for him.

I'd agree with this. Racking up titles at D3 PBAU isn't all that impressive to me. If you are really that good then you can win at any division and at any location.
