LOL I hate the phrase "double down" but I'll do it here. RANT MODE:
Everything about coach hiring is bullshit.
Most of us think the primary job of a coach is to develop prospects. If that's true, a 90+ pitching coach is wasted in the bigs, you would really want him working in AA. But this game forces him out of there.
None of us has any idea if great coaching makes a difference. No one wins game seven of the WS 8-7 and says thank god I spent the extra 300k on my third base coach.
My opinion is that coach hiring happens at a time in the season when an owner might not be doing anything else. Maybe his team is set up, his prospects are coming to the majors, he's not buying free agents.
In real life terms, it's either a vanity project, or a make work project. What do you care who your coaches are? It's just more player cards to fiddle with. Hey look, my hitting coach is "Hootie McBlowfish" and he has a higher rating than yours.
My bench coach in one of my leagues is a guy who's been on my coaching staff since Rookie Ball 25 seasons ago. He's a legacy, a waste of 2 million. Why do I keep him, because I'm a ******** that way sometimes. That's a vanity project.
Or it's something the boss doesn't want you sitting around looking at YouTube videos, so he needs you to make a spreadsheet that does nothing. A make work project.
If they GOT RID of coach hiring, maybe two of us would miss it.
