I'm doing OK. At the moment, I'm a little bored with the game. That's happened before and I'm still playing.
Just got back from a vacation in my home state of Florida that was carefree due to the sensationalism of the good folks that use a magic 8 ball to forecast weather. Beaches were clear and calm, theme parks empty and the weather just fine. My wife asked me weeks ago if we should cancel and I just laughed. One of these days, meteorologists will discover this thing called the Gulf Stream and realize how it impacts tropical storms.
Just got back from a mini vaca myself. Gatlinburg Tennessee in the mountains for a few days. *** hole coaches suck. HD can become stale if you are in quest of a title and you win 6 in about 6 months, it changes you. Or it did me. I feel like I'm on the back 9 of my HD career now. Pallas' post about wheelchair basketball was a masterpiece. I don't have anything to disagree with shoe about in this thread. Work sucked on my first day back. AB is a circus. I like omelettes with everything on them. And please..... don't forget the salsa!
Gatlinburg is one of my favorite places. Cade’s Cove, Klingman’s Dome, etc. If you can get past Pigeon Forge, it’s close my idea of paradise; on the mainland, anyway.
If you’re getting stale at D2, move to D1. Should be a slam dunk. ;) Having fun is way more important than status (titles), so find stuff you like to do, make challenges for yourself (you know, like trying to win titles with press/zone combo, lol).
shoe hits it on the head about how to stay interested in the game.
This is my 15th year and if I had done nothing but focus on titles, I would have won a handful and then quit a decade ago. Palm Beach Atlantic, maybe the primo DIII location, is boring me to death. I'm not even trying. The game stays fresh (for me) by creating a unique challenge...which I do through oddball school locations...running less-popular OFF/DEF combos and, most importantly, finding a conference with some good guys to build long-term rivalries with.
Whenever I get bored with HD, I know it's time to migrate back to DI Hawaii because it has all the elements to keep me engaged.
your hawaii programs were sweet. i'm not familiar with all of them, but enough! that final 4 from back in 2.0 was awesome, much more impressive than the vast majority of championships, and im sure much more satisfying on a personal level.
i pretty much agree with all you guys. i tend to get bored of regular order quick and have to mix it up, trying to play something different than usual like trying to get good with fb or zone. or the last several years of my playing, by co-coaching, so i can talk about the game and think about it, but don't have to do much by way of playing :) back in the day it was trying to build a super conference in d2.
for me it was never as much about winning as the pursuit of perfection; when i really have been hitting the bottle hard HD-wise, its been that. i only managed it for a couple years when i started (the pursuit, not the perfection), and then once after a number of years had passed, for 1 more year. it just gets old. and exhausting. i guess i sort of hate the day to day grind part of this game. the only thing that was said that was totally not me is like, the idea of waking up with coffee and wanting to check the game. i basically have come to resent all the cycle times when i have to go do stuff before time X or screw myself. i used to like it, for the first couple years, but the penalty for taking a week off is so bad, i am not a fan of that (not that i could see how one would even fix such a thing). i guess i should really stick to the co-coaching bit... right now im enjoying having 1 team of my own as i learn 3.0 recruiting but i feel like that runway is running out quick!
