Is Benis a commodity?
Hahaha this made me laugh out loud, nice.
I've actually thought poopshoe's use of the word commodity to describe HD players as stupid and just incorrect. HD players aren't really commodities in the true sense of the word.
Im not an expert in this stuff but a commodity is good that that has a price that is set by the global market and manufacturer or brand doesn't matter. Oil can be procured from Texas or Iraq, its still the same stuff.
HD players have very distinguishable tiers of quality as designated by division projection. D1 teams aren't recruiting d3 projected players because those teams desire higher quality players. HD players are more like cars. D3 is a honda civic while D1 is a BMW M5. And 5 stars are Lambos or Rolls Royce. But cars are not commodities. The manufacturer, brand and QUALITY matters and the consumer can choose to pay more for that higher quality, if they wish.
Whether or not you bid on the good is irrelevant here. I just bid on a TV on ebay. Are TVs commodities? Nope. I bid on an antique lamp at a swap meet. Are antiques commodities? Nope.
