The Debate? "Stand back, and stand by" Topic

I think Trump “won” the debate (not really, it was pathetic from both sides. Trump not condemning the Proud Boys, Biden defending Antifa), but given the narrative that Joe Biden was a bumbling fool who runs out of energy and Trump was gonna destroy him, it was a win for the Biden campaign last night. But all in all, no one’s vote got changed, and undecided voters are still undecided after that debate.

Biden did not defend antifa.
he said they were not an organized group of members like the white supremacy groups because the trump appointed FBI head said that to the senate.

ray downplayed any antifa threat and I’m paraphrasing said it was fake news.

I loved the time all 3 were talking at the same time and trump looked so angelic.
it was a surreal image of trump America.

I think this is basically right, aside from the first sentence. I already said that inasmuch as we like to pick the "winner," I think it was Biden. He had the best moments, and Trump had the worst moment. I actually thought in real time that Trump was trying to say what Wallace wanted him to say, and that stand back and stand by was a legitimate gaffe - let's face it, he's not good at speaking - but ultimately that's not particularly important. When you're in the public spotlight, it's not what you mean that matters most, it's what your audience hears. It's very clear what the white supremacists will have heard, even if it's not what Trump meant.

Ultimately, though, I don't think you can name a winner. Biden had the best moments, but if you put them all together they probably don't make 30 seconds. The reality is that anyone who actually watched the full debate with an open mind came away with the overwhelming impression of two guys talking over each other, insulting each other both personally and professionally, and failing to lay out any policy positions in a meaningful manner. I think the argument that these debates really don't matter has a lot of merit. There are the fewest undecided and "leaning" voters since polls have tracked those numbers. Many states already have early voting open. There just aren't a lot of people who are actually going to base their votes in any way on what happens in these debates. But for the few potential undecided voters there were, I highly doubt that the debate moved the needle AT ALL. 30 seconds of personal appeal in the midst of 90 minutes of personal attack aren't what you walk away with if you weren't already on board with Biden.

I think that you have a weak mind if you call the comment a gaffe.

Ignoring what is or is not a "gaffe" Dahs has it about right. To me, it's just as easy for a gaffe to be revealing as all get out, or not........depending. But, otherwise I agree. VERY few minds were changed, if any. But, IF we're to believe what the polls are "claiming to represent" AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME, Trump trails. Bigly, with a portion of what used to be his supporters, and I would wager that virtually no one who isn't already aboard the Trump ship (those that have already ACCEPTED his reprehensible personal character) was moved to decide to VOTE for him based on those 90 minutes.

Thus, a win for Biden.

IF I'm Biden, I refuse to debate any further without some sort of "moderator" "tool" (and the POWER to wield it!) allowing the moderator to "stifle" the offending party.
I suggest a shock collar!

If I’m looking at the debater’s comment I’m not sidestepping a weak minded excuse for refusing to denounce the proud boys.

moronic to call it a gaffe.
stand back is not a denouncement.
stand by is an endorsement.
all said against a constant refusal to denounce.

gotta be an idiot and weak mind willie to call it a gaffe when it is trump speaking.
Stupid comment by the high school debater.

btw - 2 people speaking over each other?
most people saw trump speaking over.

Saying Biden won is no great shakes of an assessment.

first graders know Biden won by default.
10/1/2020 2:51 PM
Did Biden even say anything true? Sucks for the low-informed voter, they’re the ones getting played by Biden.
