I think etta was actually incredibly intelligent, but to Gil's point, the dude couldn't get out of his own way. He just loved to pick fights and would argue his points to the death. oh man, i totally forgot about that! colonels did grow on me in the end though, took him a little while but he kinda settled down and was a solid member of the community in the end. i wonder if he is still doing that website?

well, i'm pretty sure he got banned too fast to rack up anything close to 52k. but i would bet money he broke triple digits in single days on a number of occasions, and it was all this forum. those bickerings you talked about earlier - if you took like, the 5 most argumentative threads over the past 18 months, some of us at our at our absolute worst, that was etta as his best. those 5 threads would be his tuesday, and it would be like well, at least he wasn't THAT bad today...

plus the other thing is, i mean it was just like, so ridiculous, i can't even comprehend it now looking back - the dude could give me a run for my money on length. seriously - but he had like 4 seasons in his LIFE. his team was an absolute train wreck, yet he lauded their insanely marginal progress constantly as proof of his superior knowledge. he literally tried to make the argument his teams success proved he was on the path and knew better, and he made this argument consistently to folks like me and emy and dahs, totally genuinely, and we are just like............ i've never seen anything like it in my life

Etta was, BY FAR, the worst in the 15 or so years I've been playing HD. MikeT was like watching amateur hour compared to that clown. Bistiza (there's someone I thankfully managed to forget.....until this thread anyway) had his moments as well.

Colonels was stubborn but could be reasoned with at least. I do remember his website, it was college basketball power rankings. In Colonels mind, ANY win was better than ANY loss. Didn't matter if a team beat the worst team in D1 by a point at home, that was more impressive than losing a road game by a point to the #1 ranked team. Yes, the object of the game is to win, that's why they keep score but come on, sometimes common sense has to factor in a little as well...........no?

Anyone else remember when Colonels staked out the position that all FT attempts were a 50/50 proposition. You either make it or you miss, he said. I mean, in a very literal sense I guess he was right......kind of.......

This is pretty spot-on. Etta always reminded me of that old saying about "buying someone for what they're worth and selling them for what they think they're worth". Could have made a fortune, retired immediately and set up the next three generations of descendants off of the profit from that guy......

You could come back after a couple hours and have to scroll 2 pages to see all the new messages. But the all time favorite person on this forum is plumpy. He was the best and I often wish he would start playing again. I do miss a lot of the veterans from the beginning of this game.

Plumpy was the one and only person I've ever asked for advice at this game. I had just started and had a very important recruiting session coming up, so I reached out to him for some help and to his credit he did his best to help walk this noob who he didn't know from Joe down the street do as well as possible.

If you go to Users and filter on # of favorites, you can see MikeT's post count. He ended his WIS with a modest 52,012 posts. Most of these were NOT on the HD forums as he only joined right after 3.0 launched.

I caught the tail end of Etta and yeah, that guy was a boner.
