The more people that go to college the less it is worth. That is why grad is the new undergrad, in terms of market value and getting you a job. Soon enough PHD will be the new grad. Lefties don't understand economics or the law of supply and demand, but, gold help them, they do have big "fee fees" sensitive enough to power a small country.

So your argument is that people are getting more educated and more specialized? I don't disagree with that. But neither of those things are necessarily bad. There's positives and negatives. Is the solution to systemically prevent people from going to college? That doesn't seem great to me.

This nit is an argument against eliminating student debt.

CCCP and I just had a super long argument about this. It seems like economists are divided. Biden's plan would undoubtedly bring real economic benefits; the question is whether the cost would be better spent elsewhere.

Frankly, this isn't a huge priority for me. I think that regardless of how you feel about student loan reduction, there are even better economic policies that would bring more obvious benefits. So I choose to focus on those.

I appreciate the first actual policy thread in a while. Debating all of this culture war bullshit gets real tiring after a while.

College should be for the intellectually elite, period. We don't need that many academics. And you can learn to code on your own or go to trade school. The best authors, the most brilliant philosophers tended to be uninvolved with higher academia or brilliant despite (and not because of) their involvement. College is great. Keep it an accomplishment to get in. That way it will keep its value.
You're contradicting yourself. If college is not valuable for developing skills, then why would we need to keep it an accomplishment to get in?

You can go to college and emerge outside of academia.

College is great; I agree. We should incentivize more people to get a degree.

I am at peace with contradicting myself. I don't feel a rebuttal is necessary.

cognitive dissonance occurs when a person holds contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values, and is typically experienced as psychological stress when they participate in an action that goes against one or more of them.

Lakewood Church in Houston, the nation's largest single-site megachurch led by celebrity pastor Joel Osteen, received a $4.44 million loan under the Paycheck Protection Program in July, the Houston Business Journal reported.

The forgivable loan was originated by Bank of America, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration data, and approved during July-August, the Business Journal reported.

The data was released Dec. 1 following a Freedom of Information Act request.

So you (understandablt) don't want Churches being treated as special entities, but you don't want them treated as small businesses either? What's that leave? Treat them as individuals?

I don't think this church is a small business.

Jesus threw the moneychangers OUT.

I think the more important point is that the osteen church didn’t need the money and basically took money that several truly needy small business’ should have gotten but didn’t because of osteen.

bob, what are you trying to say? How do you want churches and the like treated, if not as their own classification, and not as small businesses?
12/16/2020 12:44 PM
I think TV evangelists and "mega-churches" (those with a large $$ component to their so-called "ministry") should be treated for what they are............and taxed on their gains. Grifters, con-men, hucksters, and preachers and radio hosts are all the same..........they're salesmen. They should pay tax!
12/16/2020 1:09 PM
Agree they should pay tax (as noted previously). Just wondered how you thought they should be "classified".
