Manchester def. Virginia Wesleyan - 64-61

Spartans eliminate 2nd ODAC squad

Manchester did all the little things necessary to knock off their second ODAC school in the PI after having dispatched Eastern Mennonite in the second round. Manchester took care of the ball having just 9 turnovers versus the Marlins' 15 and the Spartans converted 7 more free throws (while taking 6 more) and overcame being outrebounded and outshot from field to advance to the PI final against yet another ODAC foe. Harry Brown led the Spartans with 16 points and Aaron Walsh added 15 points in the win. Daniel Lagarde led all scorers with 18 points and got help from Harry Roder's 13 points and Joseph Ruth's 12 points. Daniel Shoemaker and Ira Dawson, so prominent in earlier contests, only managed to combine for 12 points.

Washington & Jefferson def. SUNY IT - 100-84

1st half surge propels Presidents to title game

Washington & Jefferson used an incredible first half opening a 60-39 lead at the break and cruised to a 16 point win and a spot in the PI championship game. The Presidents dominated the boards nearly doubling the Wildcats output at 55-29. W&J's defense was stellar early on as they forced 8 turnovers in the first half and turned that into an 11-0 advantage in points off turnovers and a 12-0 edge fastbreak points. Robert Franklin had a huge game with 26 points and 12 rebounds, Wayne Choate returned to form with 18 points, and Carl Lamb added 15 points for the Presidents. Kenneth Gaytan, harassed all night with chants of "Gay-Tan!," led the Wildcats with 19 points and Richard Madrigal added 17 points in the loss.

Final 4 National Tournament Recap

York (PA) def. Guilford - 81-66

Sloppy play early dooms Quakers

York (PA) applied the pressure to Guilford and the Spartans found a ***** in the Quaker armor as Guilford struggled to find their way in the first half and the Quakers could not recover. York forced 15 first half turnovers and turned them into 23 fastbreak points en route to a 44-27 halftime lead. For the game York got multiple second chances after pulling down 22 offensive boards and forced 21 turnovers to just 8 of their own. Guilford shot lights out from the line hitting 95%, but saw the Spartans take 13 more shots from the charity stripe. Zachary Scannell led all scorers with 19 points and Andrew Dahlberg added 17 for York who only shot 37.9% from the field. Allen Gauvin had a monster game with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Mark Graig added 14 points as the two senior centers went out with good showings. Senior Matthew Boles, however, struggled in his last appearance going 0-6 from the field including 0-5 from three-point land.

Final Postseason Invitational Recap

Manchester def. Washington & Jefferson - 97-79

Spartans finish PI 3-0 against ODAC

Manchester continued its dominance of the ODAC as it finished off yet another quality conference member in beating Washington & Jefferson 97-79 in the PI title game. The Spartans completely shut down the President starting five holding them to just 20 points. In fact, Spartan center Kevin Wolverton outscored the starters by himself with a team high 24 points. Manchester used a strong first half effort to put some distance between themselves the ODAC tournament runner-up as they opened a 50-35 halftime lead. The Spartans dominated the paint in the first half outscoring the Presidents 25-4 down low and also dominated from beyond the arc for the game hitting 10 threes to the Presidents' 2. Wolverton lead 6 Spartans in double figures. Stephen Blocher tried to single-handedly keep W&J in game filling the basket with a game high 25 points off the bench and Terry Shaw added 11 points also off the bench.

Colville's Predictions for season 29

In the EAST:

1. E. Mennonite

2. Guilford

3. Lynchburg

4. Bridgewater

(I really think the EAST is wide open this season with all 4 of the above teams with a legit shot. I don't see more than 1 or 2 games seperating them)

5. Emory & Henry (SIM)

6. Hampden - Sydney (SIM)

In the WEST

1. Wash. & Lee

2. Virginia Weslyen

3. Wash. & Jeff.

4. Bethany

5. Rand. Macon

6. Roanoke (SIM)

COY will most certainly be billhulley.
