Dillard optioned to AAA to make room for team-saver Vargas.

Mike Burns wasn't horrible last night. But the offense was.

Will the Brewers see .500 again?

The smart money says no.

Hall's stay in Nashville didn't last long as Corey Hart had to have his appendix removed on Sunday in San Diego and is expected to be out for at least three weeks, and probably won't return until September.

Hall will be brought back to the majors and may see some playing time in right field.

On the field, the Brewers managed to avoid being swept by San Diego, winning their second straight day game, 6-1.

I'd rather see Gerut get the lion's share of the time in RF than Hall. I know everyone hates Gerut because he simply hasn't produced in his time here (or in his time in SD this year) but his '08 stats are just too good, IMO, to give up on him. Maybe get him some PT, see if that gets him back to '08 form, and if it does we've got a CF next year.

After going 4 for 8 in his first 2 games in Nashville, Hall played in a doubleheader on Sunday and went 0 for 2 with 2 K's and a BB in the 1st game and 0 for 4 with a K in the 2nd. HIS SWING IS FIXED! GET HIM IN RF!

Some post-deadline trade talk:

1) Some sources say the Brewers were involved in trade talks with Seattle that involved King Felix.. this may have been the "big deal" Melvin referred to that didn't get done.

2) Buster Olney thinks the Brewers may still acquire Scott Kazmir this season from Tampa and even thought a Corey Hart for Carl Crawford swap might happen... (this was obviously before Hart went on the shelf with the appendectomy)

YAY! Brewers only on that list once.

Mets and Twins twice each.

Why the HELL would the Rays trade Crawford for Hart?

With the season basically over, I still think some good can come out of the rest of the year. Here are some things I'd like to see happen (I know some are very unrealistic):

A) Parra develop some consistency. He needs to be a #2/3 type guy next year for the Brewers to have a chance. Or, at the very worst, a good 2nd half of the year will boost his trade value for the offseason.

B) Villanueva develop into a reliable SP. I know, at this point in time it looks highly unlikely. But it wasn't too long ago that he was seen as a future member of the rotation. He's shown he can pitch at the ML level effectively, and his repertoire is definitely starter-worthy. If he could be a reliable SP next year it would be huge.

C) McGehee gets a lot of PT and shows whether he's for real or not. Even if he fades, this helps the Brewers by letting them know what they've got in him for next year.

D) Hardy produce, to boost his trade value for the offseason.

So, if those things happen, or at least a few of them do, to some extent, I think the rest of the season won't be a waste.
