Like some of the others, I find it entertaining. The author is a good writer for this sort of thread.

Game 124: Ken Griffey Jr. his four hits, including a home run and double, and scores four times as the Spectres beat the Melons 8-3 in the opener. Scott Erickson does the bare minimum for a quality start (six innings, three runs) and wins his ninth game of the season.

Game 125: Dave Burba pitches well for seven innings and the Spectres get home runs from Jay Buhner and Eddie Taubensee as they squeak by the Melons, 4-2.

Game 126: Robb Nen suffers his sixth blown save, allowing Pittsburgh to tie the score at four in the ninth. The game goes to extras when Montreal wastes a one-out single by Willie Greene. Bob Wickman walks two of the four batters he faces in the 10th, but Omar Daal retires Joe Girardi to preserve the tie. Ken Caminiti walks with one down in the bottom half, and Jay Buhner follows with a towering home run. Montreal wins, 6-4.

Montreal heads to St. Louis to face the Blue Storm.

Game 127: Nobody has beaten St. Louis' Greg Maddux this year, and he did not allow Montreal to be the first. Maddux is far from dominant but is still far better than Chuck Finley, and the Blue Storm take the opener 8-3, getting a big bases-loaded double from catcher Dan Wilson. Montreal gets six hits, all singles, and strikes out 12 times.

Game 128: Scott Erickson allows four runs, but only one is earned; Montreal pitchers strike out 11 St. Louis batters and Carlos Delgado homers in the eighth to break a 4-4 tie. Montreal wins 5-4 to even the series.

Game 129: St. Louis gets to Dave Burba early, then Scott Sanders late. Montreal doesn't do much until the ninth and they don't do enough; the Blue Storm wins 6-4. Brady Anderson picks up his 100th RBI for Montreal.

Montreal will host San Diego next; SD currently leads the wild card race, four games ahead of the Spectres. Big series.

Game 130: Brady Anderson is 0-5 with nine runners stranded, Tony Phillips commits two key errors, and the Conquistadors smack down the upstart Spectres, 6-5, to extend their lead to five games in the wild card race.

Game 131: San Diego gets an early three-run homer from Greg Jeffries and some help from the Montreal defense to take a 6-0 lead in the fourth, but the Spectres battle back and tie the score with four runs in the eighth, with Greg Gagne's bases-loaded single capping the rally. Bob Wickman works around two hits in the ninth, and Brady Anderson doubles with one down, driving in Tony Phillips with the game winner, in the bottom half.

Game 132: Scott Erickson starts well, but runs into trouble in the fifth, and Rick Aguilera makes matters worse, facing three batters, all of whom score. San Diego puts eight on the board in that frame and that's the final margin in a 12-4 blowout.

Montreal hosts Houston next.

Game 133: Ken Griffey Jr. hits a grand slam in the first inning, adds a three-run shot in the second, and the Spectres are on their way to an 11-6 series opening victory. With those hits, Griffey Jr. crosses the 100-RBI barrier, the fourth member of the team to do so. Rick Aguilera improves to 5-0.

Game 134: Alex Fernandez takes another beating; three home runs by Montreal do not make up the difference. Houston wins 8-6 and evens the series at a game apiece.

Game 135: For some reason every error the Spectres commit leads to three unearned runs. Today Ken Caminiti is the culprit, Chuck Finley is the victim, and the Lone Stars are the 5-4 winners.

With all playoff hopes gone, the Spectres head to Cincinnati to start playing out the string.

Game 136: Montreal collects 11 hits... and strands almost all of them. Only Brady Anderson's solo home run prevents a shutout as the Spectres fall to Cincy, 7-1.

Game 137: Six errors and three homers adds up to another big loss, 10-6 to the Stingers. Dave Burba takes his 12th loss; Jay Buhner hits his 40th homer and Carlos Delgado his 20th.

Game 138: Alex Fernandez has another meltdown, leaving after three having surrendered seven runs, but the vaunted Spectre offense makes a special guest appearance in the sixth, drawing five walks, many with the bases loaded, and five hits, one of them a grand slam by Carlos Delgado, to score 10 times. That's the only inning we score in, but it's enough on this day for a 10-8 win.

The Spectres will host LA next.

I read it a few times a week and especially enjoy it around draft time.

Montreal is third in the league in team OPS (.841) but only 10th in the league in runs scored (843). Team ERA is 17th in the league at 5.39. Even worse, the team has allowed 119 unearned runs this season. We have actually been outscored by our opponents, 846-843. It's a miracle we are above .500 at all.

you realize that this is all because Edgardo Alfonzo was fated to go to Boston and you kicked Lady Fate in the shin by selecting him.....

Game 139: Chuck Finley produces a not-horrible effort and the Spectre "Big Four" each scores and drives in a run as the Spectres take the opener from LA, 8-4. Brady Anderson and Jay Buhner hit home runs; Ken Griffey Jr. hits two doubles.

Game 140: Scott Erickson goes eight innings and allows only one run as the Spectres beat the (now) 1-10 Buddy Groom, 9-2. Erickson improves to 10-15. Tony Phillips hits Montreal's only home run but the Spectres club five doubles.

Game 141: Ken Griffey Jr. has four hits, Greg Gagne hits his 10th home run, and Rick Aguilera vultures another win as the Spectres beat LA 12-8 in the series finale. Aguilera pitches one inning in relief of Dave Burba, who exits after four, and improves to 7-0. Gagne becomes the seventh Spectre to reach the 10-home run mark.

Montreal heads west to face OC.

Game 142: Alex Fernandez pitches effectively for a change, and Tony Phillips' two errors don't hurt the team as the Spectres squeak out a 4-3 win over the Choppers in the opener. Montreal hangs a loss on Kevin Brown, only his fourth of the season against 17 wins.

Game 143: Chuck Finley is routed again, exiting in the fourth having surrendered 10 runs; the Choppers roll to a 14-5 win.

Game 144: Scott Erickson is stellar and the Spectres hit three home runs, two by Brady Anderson, to take a surprising (and completely useless) series victory from the Choppers, winning the finale 5-3. Erickson gets his 11th win; Anderson is up to 49 homers.

Montreal will host San Francisco next.
9/11/2008 6:53 AM
Game 145: Three days after dealing Kevin Brown his fourth loss of the sesason, Montreal does the same to Frisco's Shane Reynolds, who has 21 wins already. Rick Aguilera pitches 3.1 innings in relief of Dave Burba and gets the win, his eighth. Ken Griffey Jr. drives home two runs and Robb Nen records his 39th save.

Game 146: Once again, Frisco answers a series-opening victory by Montreal with a blowout in game 2. Alex Fernandez is rocked; the 69ers hit three home runs; and the Spectres are limited to three hits in eight innings by Ken Hill as Frisco wins 12-2.

Game 147: Chuck Finley pitches six reasonably effective innings against a powerful Niner lineup, but the bullpen is blasted and Frisco takes the series with a 10-6 decision.

The Spectres head to Wrigley to face the Bootleggers.

9/12/2008 6:42 AM
Game 148: Scott Erickson continues his late-season surge by outlasting Chicago starter Donovan Osborne in a 13-10 victory for the Spectres. Ken Caminiti and Ken Griffey Jr. each hits their 35th home run; Carlos Delgado provides some insurance with a late bases-loaded double. Robb Nen gets his 40th save.

Game 149: In what was an entirely too rare occurrence this season, the Spectre lineup explodes all over Wrigley. Montreal collects 18 hits and 12 walks, destroying the Bootleggers by a 24-7 score. Carlos Delgado has five hits, four of them doubles, and drives home six runs. Ken Griffey Jr. draws four walks and scores five runs. Jayhawk Owens hits a grand slam home run late, and Dave Burba reaches double digits with his 10th win.

Game 150: Montreal completes a rare sweep with a 4-1 win at Wrigley. Brady Anderson has four hits, including his 51st home run, and Alex Fernandez pitches into the eighth without allowing an earned run. Robb Nen nails down the save, his 41st.

The Spectres will host Philadelphia to start the final round of divisional play.
