Indianapolis would like to announce the early retirement of current Franchise Player D Maxim Sirnio - concurrently they have shifted the FP tag to D Polly Rosback.

Also, we are announcing the retirement of original Racer and fan favourite LW Bingo Annunen after 13 seasons as a Racer ... Thanks Bingo!

Wingers Pete Pihlman, Maynard Vallimo and D Lorne Sippula also choose to hang them up. We in Indy will miss them all!

Re-posting for okp.

Er yeah, just to re-post from the league forum, Yowlers' new FP is Paul Lawton.
1/11/2009 3:27 PM
Wasn't there some mention of switching to the new engine or would that screw things up
1/12/2009 7:51 PM
There was some talk about it but it was very brief and died down pretty quick.

Perhaps we should start up the convo again and see what people think? If we did go ahead with it, it'd probably have to wait until after season 20...

Its funny you mentioned that, switching to the new engine, cuz just the other day a krazy thought crossed my mind........ which would involve the "evolving" of the MLD. Keep reading..... but keep in mind this is just me typing out my thoughts..... this is by no means an "official decision" Just wanna hear some feedback.

Currently, we use "career limits" to build our teams..... career limits meaning we all know the rules regarding how long a skater and/or goalie can be used within our league. This has proved to be a very cool way to do things as it has allowed all sorts of different strategies to be used by all 24 of us.

My krazy idea... (again this is just me typing out loud)...would be to scrap the "career limits" in favour of a hard salary cap system.

By "Hard Salary Cap System", I mean every team would be allowed say....... 10, 12 or 15 million units to use on their team. There would be no "adjustment" bonuses(the kind that are given to Cup winners) We would still keep all the non-playoff skill upgrade bonuses stuff as it has proven to be useful in helping teams/GMs rebuild and stay competitive... We would also keep the 20+ games equals a season (aka salary increase) aspect of things

With a "Hard Salary Cap" system, it would allow skater/goalies to play possibly longer careers...but at a cost to the GMs who have them on their roster. Sure you could have Joe Smith play 10 seasons for your team...... but with each passing season, Joe Smith and his increasing salary would force you to make some tough decisions regarding the rest of the team.

I dont know, like I said, just typing out loud..... would anyone like to chime in with their thoughts?

BTW in case anyone is wondering, I will update the FP listing on the first post of this thread this weekend.

Hard salary cap. Ok, just off the top of my head...

1) If you set it too low it'll be useless, no one will be able to do anything with it. So... you'd have to set it at a higher level to allow guys to keep players as would be the obvious objective.

2) I think we all have players we'd love to keep longer. We'd keep them as long as we could. So you'd see teams looking like real teams do... a core of mega-talented megastars, surrounded by entry level roster fillers. The best performing teams would be the ones who could luck out and get the most production out of their cheapest players. Which means...

3) We already have all figured out that playing first-year starters out of the draft is pretty much mandatory for roster construction as is. Hard Cap would make lucking out in the draft even more important.

4) Big problem #1. Suppose we all figure out how to run a max talent team at the same time. Might be a lot of 1-0 and 0-0 games.

5) And finally, I can think of a 'cheat' right away. 100 stamina players are monsters in our league. I'm willing to bet you could build a roster with max stamina players and play only six forwards and four defensemen or something like that, for the whole season.

Ultimately, I fear that the immediate effect would be to discourage longterm roster construction. More of us might be tempted to try to build a max team till it's no longer sustainable then just blow it up and start over. Nothing wrong with that... it's how the pros do it... but it would be a big change from what we do now.

Interested in hearing what anyone else thinks.
