Back on the winning track now, as we posted 5 runs in the bottom of the first against "Pitching" and coasted to a 6-3 win behind another strong effort from Zahn, who improved to 7-6 on the season. Reb Russell allowed 6 runs in 5 innings and fell to 5-11.

Bottom one Dickey with a 2 out 3 run double and Leach followed with a 2 run HR. 5-0 already. Bottom 3 Dickey scores on a groundball by Helms that they failed to turn 2 on. 6-0. Dale Alexander led off the top of the 4th with a HR, and later than inning "Pitching" got a second run on a Zientera RBI single. 6-2 now. Top 5, Russell leads off with a triple and scores on Donovan's groundout.

No more scoring after that. Isringhausen and Koch with scoreless stints for "Pitching." Alcala had a scoreless 9th for the Rebels and notched his 5th save.

Okay, at Petco this evening, against "Pitching" again. They've got Cy Morgan (5-9, 4.74) on the hill. We have Scherzer (0-0, 6.50), with would could be his last chance to show Earl Weaver something. He may have been gone already if there was an appropriate starter available on waivers in my price range.

We were 2 hit by 4 of Pitching's pitchers, losing 2-1. Scherzer (7 innings, 3 hits, 1 run) finally pitched a good game, and will be sticking around a while. Aroldis Chapman gets the win, and Mike Fetters takes the loss.

The game was scoreless until bottom 5 when Zientera doubled home Carlos Lee. Top 7 we tied it at 1-1 as Dickey scored when Leach grounded into a 4-6-3 DP. Bottom 8 now, Fetters in, 2 outs and nobody on. Patsy Donovan walks, Alexander single with Donovan going to third. Bob Horner singles to left to give then a 2-1 lead.

Top 9 now, Rod Beck in. Greenberg reaches on an error and Chad Allen runs for him. Dickey grounds into a double play, and Buxton flies out, BALLGAME.

New series starting overnight. We are hosting Midnight Outfield for a 3 gamer. They are 33-33, 4 games out in the AL West. Their RD is -1 for the season. A completely average team playing the Baker Bowl. Because of their home park, they have scored the most runs (429) in either league, and also allowed to most runs (430) in either league. Team OPS is .816, and team ERA is 5.66. At home their OPS is .815 and their ERA is 5.94.

They open the series with 1904 Weldon Henley (5-10, 5.81) on the mound. We've got 1946 Red Ruffing (1-0, 7.50) going.

And it's a walk off 4-3 win as Speaker's 2 out double scores Helms with the winning run in the home 9th. The win goes to Diego Castillo who came in to get the final out of the top of the 9th. Win takes the loss, as Win Kellum takes the loss in relief.

Bottom one, Cullenbine doubles home Speaker to give us the lead. Top 4, Bonilla belts a 2 run HR off of Ruffing and Midnight Outfield leads 2-1. Bottom 4 we tie it at 2-2 as Dickey scores on Leach's groundout, Murcer had a big double in the inning. Bottom 6 we take a 3-2 lead as Greenberg's scores as Leach hits into a forceout at 2B. Could have been a big inning, but Helms then hit into a double play. I'd like to know how many GIDPs we have for the season. Seems like a ton of them. I don't see GIDPs anywhere in the stats. That's another thing, there are way more stats there in Diamond Mind.

Top 7, 2 outs, nobody on, and they get 3 straight hits to tie the game. King Kelly with the RBI, Perez replaces Ruffing with first and third 2 outs, and gets the final out to keep it at 3-3. Nobody does much in the 8th. Top 9, first and second, 2 outs, and Castillo comes in to strike out Anderson.

Bottom 9 now, Kellum on to pitch. Helms singles with one out. Buxton bats for Castillo and flies oiut. Two outs, Helms on first. and Texas boy Tris Speaker hits a Texas Leaguer to the RF gap. Helms scores the winning run just ahead of the throw from Reggie Smith.

2. Cionel Perez - 2 scoreless innings

Game 2 of the series tomorrow afternoon, it's 1906 Jack Taylor (10-5, 3.06) for them, and 1904 Frank Corridon (2-2, 3.11) for us. Giving our big 3 in the rotation an extra day here as we use 2 part time starters back to back. Bullpen is solid with 3 guys at 100 and Castillo at 96.

A nice easy 7-1 win over Midnight Outfield this afternoon. I was dozing off on the bench in the 9th. Frank Corridon goes all the way on a 2 hitter and ups his record to 3-2 with a sparkling 2.77 ERA now in 7 starts. Jack Taylor falls to 10-6 with the loss.

Top 2 Bonilla belts a solo HR to give them a 1-0 lead. It was all downhill for them after that as Corridon retired 22 of the next 25 batters, with just a single, a walk, and a dropped fly ball from Speaker reaching base. Meanwhile our hitters went to work. We scored single runs in the second, third and fourth. Leach, Cullenbine, and Murcer with the RBIs. Bottom 6 we posted a 3 spot to break the game open at 6-1. Corridon with a 2 run single, and the third run came home on a Speaker groundout. Helms brought Greenberg home with an insurance run in the 7th.

Series finale this evening as we hope to get the brooms out. 1908 Bugs Raymond (11-3, 2.81) going for Midnight Outfield. We have Roy Mitchell (7-3, 3.43) throwing. Boudreau gets a day off with Schofield at short.

Unbelievable. A 3-2 loss. Five of our last 6 losses are by one run. We were down 1 with first and third one out in the 9th. Boudreau bats for the pitcher and hits into a double play. Mitchell goes the full 9, scatters 11 hits, no walks, allows just one earned run, and takes the loss because of 2 unearned runs. Bugs Raymond improves to 12-3 with a save from Grimes.



Greenberg gave us the lead, 1-0, with a SF in the first. They put up 2 unearned runs in the 4th.

So we let the catcher beat out a groundball to SS with 2 outs to bring in a run. Top 7 John Anderson provides a monstrous insurance run with a solo HR. Meanwhile we got just 4 hits off Raymond in 8 innings. Bottom 9 now, Grimes on the mound. Here's how it went.

There were so many ifs there that could have won us this game. BEYOND frustrating. Three hits for Schofield for us and for Wahoo Sam for them. Crawford now hitting .405.

We are 38-31 now. At least Balking and Target both lost this eve, so we remain 10 games out of the division and 4 games out of the wild card. New series starting overnight tonight, in 2023. Start of a 3 games at LAD, who are one the worst teams in the league. They are 26-43. The games are in Dodger Stadium. We opened the season at home against hem and won the first game, but lost the next 2.

2022 Tony Gonsolin (1-3, 2.93) pitches for them, and we go with lefty 1909 Ray Collins, who has not gotten into a game yet after being picked up on Waivers a few days ago. Their catcher Will Smith is a D- thrower.

I can't believe this. I forgot to put Boudreau back in the lineup, and left a tired Schofield in, and we lost, 2-1. Ray Collins pitched an 8 inning complete game giving up just 4 hits and one earned run. Tony Gonsolin went 5 for the win, and another Tony Gonsolin also pitched for them too.

They got a run in the second on a Chris Taylor groundout and led 1-0 in the middle of the 8th. They got an unearned run in the 8th when the leadoff hitter reached on an error by Schofield, and the came home on an RBI hit by Freddie Freeman. Again we rallied in the 9th, and again we fell short.

Helms does not try to score from first on 2 out double, and then our best hitter grounds to first against Bickford to end the game. Bickford is a righty with an ERA of 8.89, but gets the lefty Speaker out to get a save. Only positives were a great game pitched by Collins, 2 hits from Helms, and a big pinch double from Buxton.

Wow, we are getting beat on by the last place team here. 7-5 just now. Urias goes 7 for the win, Zahn takes the loss.

It was 2-1 them through 5, then we actually tied it in the 6th and took a 3-2 lead in the 7th. They got 2 in the 7th to make it 4-3, and then 3 more in the 8th to make it 7-3. We came back in the 9th with 2, and of course had the bass loaded when Buxton lined out to end the game. Cullenbine had 3 hits including a HR, and Helms and Buxton also homered.

Check the box score for more of the gory details. I'm getting tired of writing up these agonizing losses.
