Is GD seeing similar trends?
GD has less of a problem attracting players, I think. D3 is much more full than D3 in HD seems to be. It's D2 and above that have issues with amount of humans. In GD I made the leap last season, and my old team's new coach is doing a gerat job - #1 in the nation at D3.

This is my first year of HD, and we'll see whether I return. I haven't decided either way yet.

Additionally, I think that Tark is the inverse of what WiS needs to do. They don't need worlds that are speeded up, they need a world that is slowed down, so they can keep the guys who have time crunches.

They obviously didn't see this coming, but I think Tark was one of the worst things that's happened to HD. Most people that joined only did so in order to race to DI (nothing wrong with that), insuring that DIII (and, in time, DII) would basically become ghost towns.

And since Tark is twice as time consuming, a lot of Tark coaches dropped other teams once they joined (particularly less successful ones that are less attractive for new coaches to pick up).
Boy, I don't think this is correct at all. Tark was dominant a long time with DIII being filled and very active well after people jumped up to DI. It only really dropped off with the new potential change. Thats when the rats abandoned ship and all the coaches did too.

Potential is probably only part of the story, but it did **** off a lot of people and seems to have been the start. There hasn't been much in the way of changes since then, plus it's been summer and college basketball offseason, which doesn't help.

bc, the two-a-day worlds ended up being very bad for the health of HD. Tark DIII was only filled later on due to the promo code.

I think potential was implemented with a glitch, that took fairly long to correct, even once the fix was released, still took several months for the players on steroids to leave the game - this is when he exodus of vet coaches took place, in spite of any words to the contrary by the apologist crowd, those coaches knew something was wrong, and . I think the downward spiral has ended - I do think that when d2 ratings are implemented in d1, we will lose more players

Or people got tired of the lack of development.

(If that link works for you)

We've had 3 release notes since the engine was released in Jan. and a certain individual was removed. 1 not resolved the rate of improvement, the other 2 notes were garbage items.

The fact is from 2004-2008 there was constant development in making this better. So unless the dev team has completely sold out and put everything they had into making this new engine absolutely amazing, then we've paid for crap for 75% of a year now.

Then again, maybe some coaches are just content to read a forum post that gets updated once a month telling you that they are working on the new engine.

If this engine isn't 100% stable and a huge improvement, you're going to see some amazing drops. I think about every coach I've talked to has 'cut back' and are sitting in a holding pattern, waiting for the result of the new release.

Yes, that's correct, seble and his team are selling out to improve the areas they've already identified to us. And, though I know it sounds crazy, they're actually going to talk as long as they need, rather than roll it out months before it's ready to use us as unwitting guineau pigs.

And while there were very clear improvement (quantum leaps, in some cases) from when HD started, there was also a LOT done by the old regime to drive the game into the ground and anger a lot of people. Remember, potential was implemented by TK, and the current engine was screwed up by TK.

Give seble some latitude in trying to clean up the awful mess that was fof him.

After an out-cry for communication in July/Early Aug, we received that Dev Blog. I'm firmly believe it was put up there because of the hysteria that was developing in the forums.

As for the blog itself, here's a quick summary of what we've got:

8/18 -
"I'll try to post something here somewhat regularly when there is significant active development happening."
"It's important to let you guys know that we are working to improve the game and we're targeting the areas that generate the most feedback."

***I read this as a calming of the waters.***

8/18 -
"I should also mention a timeline: we're probably looking at 2-3 months before this release is ready as we want to thoroughly test it beforehand. We'll be asking for testers in a month or so probably. "

***Don't take this as me holding anyone accountable for that 2-3 month quote, because I know how that goes. But we haven't even seen the testing phase start.***

8/31 -
A token message telling us they are working hard on it.

9/29 -
We get the apology for being pulled off of the project for something more important than a broken engine/game. (Really?) Then, a quick note about another month until testing. We also get a quote that the time is going to be dedicated to the new release now.

10/21 -
We get a small update on how the Rankings are going to change. No comment on progress.

During this time frame, we received 1 update, concerning the ease of moving up. Ironically, this comes just after some complaints on moving for the Rupp D2 Mega Bowl.

In the end, we've essentially received nothing.

Again, I'm HOPING that they are putting in the effort. Like many others, I'm in a holding pattern with my 5 teams. But I'm not sure how many more 'we're working on its' that the HD community can take. And not just that, if you take this amount of time to release something, it creates a build up. And if this engine fails after such a long build up, you can bet that the number of active coaches will flatline.

Warning

Renew your team now! You don't have any seasons remaining for this team.
If you do not renew for next season, YOU WILL LOSE THE PROGRAM YOU'VE BUILT.

Mlat to add to what you said, we were looking at about 5-6 dev chats a year back with tk, whereas seble has fallen quite short of that mark (and only one of his dev chats was worth a damn). If I were seble I would come out and do a dev chat in the next few weeks to allow us to ask questions about the new engine/update.
10/22/2009 3:26 PM
question:/ seble where are you with the new engine/update?

answer:/ "I'm going to have to stop now. Thanks for all the great questions and apologies to anyone that didn't get an answer. We'll have more chats coming up."

I agree

Prices tend to go UP for many products during recessions. Less customers and the same fixed costs can do that. This might be applicable to WIS, but they may be making ends meet by more advertising.

Do you think it would do any good to write to Fox Sports? Suggestions usually fall upon deaf ears around here.

I'm just about out of seasons with this and my emy ID. The new release may very well determine whether I continue to purchase seasons or not. A few other coaches that I know personally have pretty much stated the same. I hope it's been worth the wait........
