MLD World Thread #2 Topic

Good idea on the hard cap okp - I've been thinking about that for a while myself. And good ponters on the issue damag. I need more time to think about it all. It will be a totally different MLD, but more RL with no hard season limit careers. But then again, such a system may need a - always 12 forwards & 6 d-men policy, to sort out any loopholes like damag says (5).

As the stats freak I am, I just had to put together a team salary list...lol. Some interesting findings in that one - Yowlers & Knights surely are stacked with vets, and with $25 millions in difference between the rich and the poor team, it would be tough to set a hard limit.

Total team salary count - Season 14 (game 1)
1Yorba Linda Yowlers$115,003,698
2Gotham City Knights$112,150,345
3NY Junk Yard Dogs$108,279,546
4Encinitas Blades$106,733,818
5Indianapolis Racers$104,735,781
6Henderson Hornets$100,724,650
7Roswell Aliens$99,619,354
8Yorkton Millers$98,794,916
9Okanagan Ogopogoes$98,313,581
10Kandahar Cay$97,594,726
11Chilliwack Bruins$96,794,898
12NY PussyCats$96,610,909
13Hernando Hit Men$96,465,988
14Anoka Tornados$95,141,971
15Leningrad Cowboys$94,374,855
16Valhalla Vikings$94,341,032
17Winnipeg Jets$94,326,607
18Intercourse Dutchmen$93,178,072
19Wyandotte Hurons$93,091,517
20Kingston Crooks$92,032,283
21Halifax Mooseheads$91,471,953
22Pontiac Firebirds$91,391,865
23Maricopa Wildcats$91,151,957
24Beaverdale Bangers$90,194,120

rammers, you read the tables totally backward... those numbers are the amount available under the cap, aren't they?

(lol I just typed up a lengthy response while holding my lil guy in my arms/lap as I typed it..... only to have him hit some button and wipe it all out lol)

ok lets try this again.

Excellent points Damag. This is why I wanted to hear what everyone thought, to see the pros and cons of such a system and to figure out ways to counteract the cons.

1) Correct. The key would be to find a perfect hard cap value that isnt too low or high.....too low would be useless as you said, too high would allow for too many "perfect players"

2) Agreed, it would make things more realistic. I only half agree that the best performing teams would be those who luck out with and get strong performances from their cheaper players.... I think the better performing teams will be those who can find a great blend/balance of vets and prospects.

3) Yep, developing rookies/prospects is very important...... but as the Double O showed us all last season, ice too many prospects and your team will/should suffer....... for that season anyway.... I'm guessing the Double O will be a very strong team in a few seasons all thanks to their rebuilding and the developing they did in season 13.

4 and 5) I hadn't really thought about these points though I did think about the warehousing aspect of things(I'm one of the guiltiest GMs when it comes to warehousing). But I have thought of a way to deal/counter it. Along with the Hard Cap System, we could implement a snazzy new rule regarding forced retirement of players who have been warehoused for say....3-4 seasons. Warehouse a player(aka have them play 19 or less games) for 3-4 seasons and they will be forced to retire from the MLD.....
This would be kinda neat in that it could leads to 2 consequences.
A) Play your players, both prospects and stars, 20 or more games, they get salary increases as your roster inches closer toward the Hard Cap, making the GM have to make some crucial roster decisions.
B) Play your players in 19 or less games and have that season go towards their warehouse retirement limit........

It'd kinda be like a double edged sword! :)

As for Rammers suggest to set a policy about icing 12 forwards/6 defense for every game. Sounds great in theory but I gotta be honest, it would be way too hard enforce and police......... especially cuz its understandable that not everyone is able to sign on and manage/coach for every game. Even I find myself overlooking or forgeting a player got injured and I end up icing 17 players.....

I dunno, good to see some discussion on this Hard Cap idea though.

Great table Rammers but I think Damag is right, those values are the "available units" for each team.

Those values are also deceiving in that they include the unit "adjustments" awarded to Cup winning teams. (I had forgotten about those adjustments cuz it had been awhile since I won a cup in a dynasty league...... my cup win last season reminded me about them cuz my "adjustment" now says 4,500,000..... I'm not sure if I got all of that for the Cup win or if my previous pathetic playoffs adventures helped contribute to that figure..... (I had never made it past the 2nd round prior to last season)

Multiple MLD Cup winners like Yogs, Jayden, Blee and Drg would really display deceiving available unit values.

As a stat junkie as well..... I'm considering doing a team-by-team, player-by-player collection of salary values that would/could help you out with this table if ya wanted me too........ but the work load seems a bit much for 1 person.... perhaps if we split the workload in 2, you do one conference, I do the other..... or 3 ways with each person tackling 2 divisions? Let me know....

(if you have an easier way to collect this info, go for it!!) :)

Ohh crap...you got it damag...just collected the resulting cash $ from the trade proposal page on the fly, and ended up with the amount available under the cap, like you said. That list doesn't make sense at all - and we can't see each others team payroll. But it could be done the okp way - player-by-player.

But another cap issue is the goalies - their salaries have always been a little bit odd, as we never have looked at the # of games there, only doing retirements based on TOI.

If we did go with a hard cap, it should be payroll only and not taking adjustments or total costs into the calculation.

Aliens = $12,880,644 in payroll - and $12,499,998 in adjustments (after winning two cups, but never advanced from round 2 in any other playoffs).

I did a player-by-player count and found the team payroll on a few other teams...

Crooks = $13,457,717

Firebirds = $13,763,135

Junk Yard Dogs = $14,759,964

Jets = $14,828,831

Anyone with a higher payroll?

Oh geez, I forgot you won 2 Cups as well Rammers, I would have mentioned you with those other double cup winners.....hrmmmm interesting though.

Yogs, Jayden, Blee, Drg, and Rammers each have 2 Cups...... (10 cups total)

You 5 guys account for 10 of the 13 Cups awarded...... krazy!!

Don't know why, rammers, but your calculation of my payroll ended up 1 million high... at least now I know what those "adjustments" are... actually I still kind of don't.

In case I didn't make it clear I really don't like the hard cap idea. I'm really familiar with the concept of turning your roster over every five or six seasons, living in a junior hockey town...

And hey, am I wrong or didn't yogs win 3 cups?

Yorkton Millers payroll is $11,570,085

Oops, you are right...... Yogs won 3.... and Jayden only won 1...... Jayden has so many Presidents Trophies I must have gotten confused.

Yog 3
Rammers 2
Blee 2
Drg 2
Jayden 1
Canuk 1
Jbar 1
Okp 1

13 Cups awarded

ok now that adds up. :)

btw, I'm in the process of putting something together to showcase everyone's salary levels (team by team)......gonna flex my nerd muscles and throw together a neat spreadsheet. :)

Should be done with it by tonight and I will try to post it here.... its looking really nice if I may say so myself. lol

The tables above include goalie salaries..... as well as the 2 trades that are going through to start the season

Interesting stuff eh?
