And this is why people don't want things to get even remotely political.

The spirit of this thread since day one has been to provide a positive place for us to hangout, tell stories, and get to know one another. Politics produce the exact opposite product; they are divisive, and because most people connect their identity to their party, a civil conversation is incredibly unlikely. I have opinions. I also know that not everyone needs to know what those opinions are.

If you want this thread to go this direction, so be it. It will likely mean the end of the thread.
Some folks don’t realize this, so it’s worth mentioning - the person who starts a thread can report posts for being offensive, or for not being germane to the topic of the thread. The discretion, in this case, is yours.

Also, folks should use their up and down votes more often.
The topic of the thread is "How are you?" Basically everything in the world is germane to the topic.

In the past, when threads like this have gotten unruly, seble has simply deleted them. Red-lining is a gamble.
The two valid criteria for reporting are offensiveness and off-topic. I’m just stating the guidelines. The discretion for reporting is up to the thread’s OP author. If Pallas finds my use of the word “bullshit” offensive, he is the one who can report the post. If he finds name calling offensive, he has the discretion to report those posts.

Last I heard, there is really no one reviewing reported posts right now. If it’s a gamble, the stakes are pretty low, especially regarding reporting done in good faith, in accordance to the guidelines.
I won't be reporting anything. For one, I'm not easily offended. Secondly, nothing said (to this point) has been so ridiculous to warrant reporting to whomever is in charge of that sort of thing these days. I'm just disappointed how a three-month-old thread with near 13,000 views can be derailed in a matter of hours when politics is mentioned. I see it on Facebook every day. And I was hoping it wouldn't pop up here, but it has, which probably shouldn't be surprising.

We'd be better served focusing on how we are alike rather than how we are different. It was why I started the thread to begin with. And because I genuinely cared how you were.
That’s cool. Like I said, just reporting the facts. We complain about a lot of things we actually have the power to do something about. Up/down voting and reporting exist in a forum for a reason, but almost never get used for those purposes.

Also, at the point someone started lamenting “politics” infiltrating the thread, politics had not actually been mentioned. No policies have been discussed, no politicians have been named. Time’s Person of the Year is a young woman with Aspergers, and the honor was announced the same day my son received the same diagnosis.

I suppose it is predictable (and hilariously ironic) that the mention of a young activist’s name will ultimately result in howls of “snowflake” and “triggered” from some crowds. That’s the price of doing business in the internet, I guess.

Was looking for something else and stumbled on this. I'm not sure if cubcub ever replied to it:

Cubcub= Go cubs
113= (1) November 3rd was the day most teams win the World Series
(2) January 13th is my birthday
i might be wrong, cubbie, but at the time you created your name, i think there had only ever been one World Series game on November 3, and it was game 6 and not a clinching game in 2001.

but maybe you are the amazing kreskin, because AFTER you created your name, the cubs won in 2016 and what day did they clinch? november 3! and it would have ended on november 2 if not for the cubbies late inning faltering and then the rain delay. wow!

very cool. i need to change my name to aggiesaggies112 or something
Yeah what's funny is Nov 3 just isn't, but it worked out for the Cubs.

To not-so-slightly switch gears, remember that story about Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album lining up eerily smoothly with The Wizard of the Oz? I've heard this story since I was a kid, and I always chalked it up to pot smokers with too much time of their hands. And, as how I feel about most conspiracy theories, I thought it was absolutely ridiculous.

Well, I recently found a YouTube video where someone synced the two. I will post it if people want me to. It's pretty crazy. I still think it's nothing more than an incredible coincidence. But some of the timestamps people posted were interesting.

i always thought it was bullshit too but if you get it just right it is pretty awesome. until, you know, the album ends with like half the movie left (but not exactly half where you could claim you just play the album twice like some people suggest). if i recall there were like 2-3 moments that were so perfect it was believable in the moment, especially when someone falls off the fence or whatever the fence bit was. but when you compare the number of albums and movies in this world to those 2-3 moments, i suppose i'm not really buying it.

but while we are getting political... can we dispense with the last politically acceptable stereotype?? its not like all pot smokers just sit on the couch. all the great **** from the last century was created by pot smokers anyway. i can't think of anything right now, but its true, look it up!

As a scientist I can assure you that this assertion is false. Plenty of good stuff was created by people who stick to copious amounts of alcohol as their drug of choice.

Fair.

In my defense, as a person who has never smoked anything or done any drugs, all I had were the stereotypes.

true. i was going to say 'by people who did drugs', it just didn't seem to fit as well, but i certainly agree!

for the inexperienced, alcohol is one of the stronger drugs out there, so i certainly include it in the generic 'drugs'.

As someone who has, uh, "dabbled", I can say this is definitely true

b) i know its only circumstantial at this point, but there seems to be some evidence that Dr. Gil's HoF HD career may have been aided by performance enhancing drugs?!?!?!
