No, they don't respond.

Big company buys small one with great bottom line numbers, but doesn't really understand the business model. Big company tries to improve bottom line by cutting fat, and the highest paid employee, the (former) owner and founder. Big company improves bottom line further by capitalizing on "how to make money" via advertising. The genious of the game early on was that exerienced users had "control" or atleast felt they had control of game development. Now well now... game developers are busy fixing, stop gapping, and tweaking rather than making the game visably better. The "community" business model that made the company successful has been abandoned. We'll see if it survives without it.

Interesting thought, but I think that many will (or have) agreed that the game needed seble to continue to improve. And I really am not sure what you mean by 'community' WIS has never really made their customers feel appreciated, with their very sub-par Customer Service.

mcc, as Z alludes to, the problem with your short story is that HD was horribly f'd before TK . And I'm totally puzzled as to what you mean by the community business model being abandoned. People had been miserable for a year or more before seble entered the picture.

I don't cast any blame on seble. I'm sure he's doing what he can... and rewriting the engine is probably the most efficient long term decision.

As for customer service... it's a difficult thing. More than half the people i see making posts about customer service may be certifiably insane. Mostly, people just don't like to be told 'no.' Just be glad comcast or verizon is not in charge.

People complained before TK . But I always got the sense that the game was evolving based on what the HD community wanted. Granted, I'm not always engaged in the forums. But TK was updating even as he .... and whether or not you ended up liking potential, I always had the feeling these changes were in response to the demand of HD users.

Since TK , there hasn't been an update of substance. There hasn't been a developer chat of substance. There hasn't been a developer jumping in on forums saying, "good idea, we're going to put that on our list of things to do." And yeah, I don't think things were perfect... but I do think that TK always wanted to make the game better. In fact, I'd bet practice would still matter if TK was here to make changes... maybe.

That feeling of evolution is quickly eroding. Of course, you can't make updates if you don't understand the program. So maybe that will change after the rewrite. But time is dragging on... and well, I for one like tweeks to the game.

Just my two cents

As someone who has worked extensively in the Customer Service Area for years, there is always a way to make a customer feel valued while explaining to them why they aren't correct, that involves listening and understanding where your customer comes from and IMO that is where WIS fails in the CS department.

TK was never really for listening to what the community wanted for HD, it was his way or the highway. During his tenure they were never interested in hearing any problems with HD and would never admit that there were any.

Seble is in a very tough position, in terms of understanding of the game he is light years behind TK and it is not due to any lack of effort on his part, it is soley based on the fact that TK built this game from nothing and clearly is the person who knows the most about the inner workings of the HD engine. The new rewrite of HD is suppose to greatly increase his understanding of the engine and make fixes much faster. I completely agree with you on the Dev Chat front. I really wish he would step up and have one for us to ask questions about this new update, especially since it is taking much longer then he stated to start.

That feeling of evolution is quickly eroding. Of course, you can't make updates if you don't understand the program. So maybe that will change after the rewrite. But time is dragging on... and well, I for one like tweeks to the game.

Sure 'tweeks' to the game are great but I could care less about 80% of the pointless tweeks that are done. I want a substantially better engine, more coaching options, ect. These things take time and while it can be annoying having to wait, the substantial changes can't be done overnight.

Just my two cents

True, but that is so much easier to accomplish when you can communicate verbally rather than by writing. I'm not suggesting that WIS has a voice line; that's just the way this game is set up.

At what point should I change the title to HD Lost Interest? DI and DII are half full and DIII (thanks WIS) is now over 70% SIMs.

The demise of DIII in Smith is sad to me. I started out my HD life with Hope College and was there 19 seasons. For most of my time there, our conference was almost all full with human coaches (which wasn't a rarity back then). The games were competitive, the Coaches Corner had good discussion and it was a lot of fun. Then slowly, coaches began to leave out lack of interest, frustration with potential and the game engine, etc. Looking at the conference now, it's down to three coaches. My old Hope team is playing 19 games against SIMs. At this rate, who would ever want to stay there?

Early returns here confirm what some have been saying ... the changes have been bad for DI and have made the lower levels more interesting.

Sorry for the format but I cant get it any cleaner using the new forums
