Technically your core had only 2 goals in the first 4 championship games (out of 6) - your depth won the championship.
While this true statistically, without the core players Chicago doesn't even make the playoffs, let alone win the Cup. Toews won the Conn Smythe for a reason: there was no better player in last year's playoffs. Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook played huge minutes and shut down everyone they faced. Patrick Sharp, alot of people forget, scored 11 goals, many of them important.
The depth was important, the core was invaluable.
