i actually agree with randle. why the hell is cory schneider still on your team? you signed luongo to a long term contract. he plays the majority of the games, and you are still holding on to a goalie whom a number of GMs consider a future number one (some think he has faults). and to top it off, your defense aren't looking the healthiest. i think gillis dropped the ball on this one. on the other hand, you guys are still in first, and the twins are playing great this year, minus the olympics. :>

The reason Schneider was difficult to move this season is that the teams that could have been sellers on deadline day are set in goal for the future. Carolina (Cam Ward), Toronto (JS Giguere and Gustavsson), Atlanta (Ondrej Pavelec), Edmonton (Drouin-Deslauriers and Dubnyk) and Columbus (Steve Mason) are all teams that would be sellers and none of them have the goaltending position as their #1 need right now.

Other GMs were probably asking for guys like Cody Hodgson and Jordan Schroeder in trade talks, and I can totally understand if Gillis doesn't want to move those two players for guys like Aaron Ward, Joe Corvo and Raffi Torres. There was no one really that got dealt last week that would warrant a return of a top prospect like that I don't think.

All that being said, one has to wonder how hard Gillis really tried. Considering there were some serviceable players that went for draft picks (see Scott Walker for a 7th rounder), I'm sure he could have added some depth somehow without giving up the farm.

Why move Cory Schneider for a rental player? Gillis will wait for the right time to make a deal. Obviously the right player was not available at the deadline or Schneider would have been moved. You may see a deal between Chicago and Vancouver that involves Schneider during the off season.

juskay, although the Hawks may be in the market for a goaltender this summer if the playoffs are a bust, with the focus on this core to win now, I believe they will more likely go for a proven commodity rather than a young, untested netminder.

As long as Cory puts up good #'s with the Moose he will remain a valueble asset.

I love Vancouver, what drives me nuts is the hardass fans (WE won .. HE lost) it's always the same. I don't believe Loungo to be infallible, but you would be hard pressed to find any goalie that has done better for the TEAM. In another post you stated that he had great defence in the Olympics and didn't face many shots, true but then again he doesn't have that defence in Van now does he? I see your point and agree he may not the best in the league, but damn it all to hell it's a team sport, and LUU shouldn't have to bail them out EVERY game.

Well, this is weird...I agree AND disagree with randle...

First, I completely agree that Luongo has not played consistently this season at all. 2 great games followed by 2 bad ones followed by 4 average ones. The more concering number for me is that out of the 23 games so far where he's allowed 3 or more goals, 15 of them have been against non-playoff teams.

Second, I disagree that Luongo is an average goalie. I think he has the ability to be definitely a top 10, and most years a top 5 goaltender in the league. Remember all the years he played behind terrible Panther teams? There was even talk of him winning a Hart trophy one year playing on a non-playoff team. He's good, he's having a very bad regular season by his standards.

All that being said, he hasn't won a thing yet, so let's see how he does this spring before passing judgement. They used to say Ed Belfour would never win a Cup. The same was said about Chris Osgood at one time. Ditto Nik Khabibulin.

As for trashing Lu, I say every fan has every right to criticize any player for a sub par performance of this level, especially when said player has proven he can be better.

I agree.....We will see about Luongo come play-off time. Canuck's have reached 40 wins quicker than in any other season, not bad for a team riding at best a top 30 goalie??? I would take randle's rants seriously about Luongo if the team finished below .500, but the team is on pace to finish with the most points in franchise history. We win as a team and we lose as a team...The team is playing well so get off Lui's back, your rants are getting very old.
