Game 76: Randy Johnson shuts out the Spectres for seven innings, but when Edgardo Alfonzo connects for a two-run double in the eighth, Montreal takes a 2-1 lead. But closer Robb Nen walks the first three batters he faces in the ninth, then allows an RBI single. Luke Wilkins enters and allows a sacrifice fly that puts LA on top but retires the next two batters. With two down in the ninth and Mike Fetters on the mound, Tony Phillips and Ken Caminiti draw walks, bringing up catcher Carlos Hernandez. Hernandez triples, Spectres win, 4-3.

Game 77: Manny Ramirez continues to crush Montreal pitching, hitting a home run and driving home three; the Looters hit three longballs off Alex Fernandez and even the series with an 8-6 victory.

Game 78: Four Montreal errors lead to 12 unearned runs, and the Looters rout the Spectres 18-0. Scott Erickson loses his fourth straight decision, dropping to 8-5. Brian Moehler and Jamie Navarro limit the Spectres to five hits.

Montreal will close out the first half at Cincinnati.

Game 79: Ken Griffey Jr. hits a two-run double in the first inning and later adds two home runs, driving home six runs for the day, as the Spectres defeat Cincinnati 12-6 in the series opener. Montreal continues its recent trend of allowing unearned runs in bunches, surrendering five more on two errors in this one, but get enough offense to overcome. The outburst gives Griffey Jr. 28 homers and 87 RBI for the season.

Game 80: Catcher Eddie Taubensee makes his 1997 debut with an 0-3, 1 strikeout performance. The rest of the offense follows suit; Cincy's Tom Gordon pitches a complete game shutout for a 2-0 win.

Game 81: Carlos Delgado hits two doubles and drives in five runs, giving him 50 RBI at the halfway mark, as the Spectres batter Todd Stottlemyre on the way to a 9-2 win.

Scott Erickson (8-5) and Ken Griffey Jr. (88 RBI) are the only Montreal All Stars this season.

Montreal returns from the break at home, hosting West leader San Diego.

Game 82: Brady Anderson has three extra base hits and Tony Phillips has two doubles as the Spectres beat the Conquistadors 10-4 to open the second half of the season. Alex Fernandez gets the win, allowing him to match Erickson's 8-5 record. Ken Griffey Jr. adds his 29th home run.

Game 83: Scott Erickson gets back on track, allowing only a solo home run to Jose Canseco in eight innings of work, and the Spectres beat San Diego 6-1. Raul Casanova and Ken Caminiti drive in two runs apiece.

Game 84: Ken Caminiti continues his hot hitting with two home runs and Jay Buhner adds a longball of his own as the Spectres sweep the Conquistadors with a 5-1 win in the series finale.

Interleague sets with Seattle, New York, and Minnesota are next up.

Game 85: Montreal's struggles with PL teams continue as they drop a 4-2 decision to visiting Seattle. Denny Neagle pitches seven strong innings for the Emeralds to earn his 14th win. Raul Casanova drives in Montreal's two runs.

Game 86: The trip to Seattle is no better. Facing a right-handed starter for the first time since the Break, the Spectres seem flummoxed by Scott Kamienecki's stuff and fall meekly, 4-1. Ken Caminiti commits his 20th error, which leads to two unearned runs against tough-luck starter Chuck Finley.

Game 87: Playing at historic Yankee Stadium, the Spectres' bats finally come to life. Four players have three hits each and the Spectres pound the Taxi Drivers' Matt Morris on the way to an 8-2 victory. Alex Fernandez strikes out 10 for his ninth victory.

Game 88: Scott Erickson is shaky again, but leaves in the seventh with a 6-4 lead, courtesy of two Jay Buhner home runs and a three-run blast from Edgardo Alfonzo. The bullpen, however, is atrocious. Rick Aguilera and Eddie Guardado combine to allow seven eighth-inning runs and the Taxi Drivers even the series with an 11-6 win.

Game 89: Carlos Delgado triples and homers and the Spectre pitchers walk no batters as Montreal beats Minnesota 5-2 at the Humphreydome. Willie Blair improves to 6-5.

Game 90: Dave Burba gives up three home runs, two to Tony Clark, and the Spectres commit three errors as the MallRats explode for nine runs in the first two innings (four unearned). Montreal can't come back, dropping a 9-6 decision despite outhitting Minnesota 15-11.

The team heads to Chicago for their first trip to Wrigley this season, to face the Bootleggers.

Game 91: Eddie Taubensee hits his first home run of the season, but the Spectres are generally sluggish at the plate and Robb Nen suffers his fourth blown save of the season, choking up a 3-2 lead in the ninth. The game goes to extras and Chicago proves to have more bullpen depth on this day. Ron Coomer hits a bases-loaded single off Eddie Guardado in the 12th to win it for the Bootleggers.

Game 92: Ken Griffey Jr. hits home runs in consecutive innings, accounting for all five Montreal runs, and the Spectres even the series with a 5-3 win. Alex Fernandez goes eight for his 10th win; Kelvim Escobar cleans up for Robb Nen after another shaky performance to get the save.

Game 93: Eddie Taubensee hits two more home runs, giving him three for the series (and the season), and Ken Giffey Jr. drives in three more runs as the Spectres win the rubber match, 10-6. Scott Erickson is shaky but earns his 10th win.

The Spectres head to Houston to face the Lone Stars.

Game 94: Edgardo Alfonzo's two-run homer breaks a 3-3 tie in the eighth and the Spectres take the opener in Houston, 6-3. Robb Nen has another adventuresome outing but settles down to pick up a save for the first time in three appearances; Rick Aguilera improves to 5-1 with two scoreless innings.

Game 95: Dave Burba and Mike Remlinger combine for a 2-hit shutout and the Spectres score six times in the second on the way to a 9-0 victory. Burba strikes out seven in six innings and improves to 8-7.

Game 96: Tony Phillips hits a bases-loaded double and even Bret Boone drives home a run as the Spectres beat Houston 9-2. Chuck Finley goes six innings for his eighth win.

Montreal returns home to face St. Louis (67-29).

Game 97: Alex Fernandez pitches eight strong innings and Ken Griffey Jr. hits his 33rd home run as the Spectres defeat St. Louis 5-2 in the series opener. Robb Nen appears to be back on track as he pitches a perfect ninth for the save.

Game 98: Jay Buhner has a rare two-hit game and Montreal gets home runs from Edgardo Alfonzo and Willie Greene to beat the Blue Storm, 7-5. Scott Erickson is shaky but earns the win with seven innings; Robb Nen gets another save, his 19th.

Game 99: The Spectres have not historically had much luck against Greg Maddux but Willie Blair outpitches him on this day, and the Spectres get three scoreless innings from the bullpen as they beat the Blue Storm 4-1 in the series finale. Brady Anderson hits two doubles for Montreal and scores three of the four runs.

The Spectres are off to the West Coast to pay a visit to the hated 69ers.

Game 100: Jay Buhner may be finding his swing again; he has another two-hit game, both hits homers, and drives in three to give him 15 HR and 50 RBI for the season. The Spectres get four shutout innings from the bullpen as they take the opener from Frisco, 9-2.

Game 101: The Spectre bullpen sees its scoreless streak end as the Niners rally against Bob Wickman and score a 5-2 win with a four-run seventh inning. Montreal commits three errors and looks helpless against the Niner relievers.

Game 102: Eddie Taubensee hits his fourth home run and the bullpen gets back on track with four scoreless innings as the Spectres take the series finale, 4-2. Alex Fernandez strikes out seven batters in five innings and earns his 12th win.

Montreal heads home to face Milwaukee.

Game 103: Milwaukee's David Cone strikes out 11 batters, but walks home a run in the seventh to tie the game, then allows a two-run single to Carlos Delgado. Bob Wickman and Robb Nen each pitch a scoreless inning and Tony Phillips doubles home an insurance run as the Spectres win the opener 5-2.

Game 104: Willie Blair pitches seven 1-hit innings and Jay Buhner connects for his 16th home run as the Spectres beat the Krauts 4-1. Robb Nen pitches the ninth for his 23rd save.

Game 105: Brady Anderson leads off with a single, and Tony Phillips doubles him home. That's the only run of the game as the Spectres sweep Milwaukee with a 1-0 win. Dave Burba pitches seven 2-hit innings; Eddie Guardado and Robb Nen finish off the shutout.

The Spectres are back to the West Coast to face the Looters.

Game 106: Jay Buhner has three hits, including his 17th home run, and Chuck Finley drives home a run off Randy Johnson as the Spectres beat the Looters 2-1. The Montreal bullpen contributes 3.1 scoreless innings to preserve Finley's ninth win.

Game 107: Jay Buhner hits a two-run triple in the ninth to break a 4-4 tie and Robb Nen pitches a scoreless bottom half as the Spectres steal a 6-4 win from LA, scoring twice in the eighth and twice in the ninth.

Game 108: Scott Erickson pitches six good innings and the Spectres break open a close game with nine in the ninth as they beat the Looters 13-2. Greg Gagne starts the scoring in the ninth with a pinch-hit two-run homer and later singles home another run.

The Spectres return to Montreal to face Cincinnati.

Game 109: Ken Griffey Jr. doubles home a run in the first and later scores on a wild pitch; it's the last time Montreal finds home plate but they win the game anyway. Willie Blair pitches seven brilliant innings and the bullpen preserves the lead as the Spectres win 2-1. Blair improves to 9-5.

Game 110: Montreal rallies for four runs in the eighth inning to tie the score at five, but when the game goes to extras, Cincy's bullpen outlasts the Spectres'. When Robb Nen tries to take on a second inning of work, he is not as effective; the Stingers get a run home and then John Franco pitches a scoreless 14th for the save.

Game 111: Chuck Finley pitches well enough through five, but gets LIT UP in the sixth. Roberto Alomar greets reliever Jared Carmony with a grand slam and the Stingers have a seven-spot on the board. Montreal drops their second straight game, 12-3.

The Spectres head back to the West Coast to face San Diego, leading the West at 62-49.

Game 112: After a long stretch of success, the Spectre bullpen is going through a rough patch. Bob Wickman allows an eighth inning home run to Vinny Castilla, erasing a 5-3 lead, and Rick Aguilera allows the winning run in the ninth as the Conquistadors rally for a 6-5 win.

Game 113: Ken Griffey Jr. has his first huge game in a while, clubbing two doubles and a home run to drive in six, and Scott Erickson pitches into the eighth inning for the first time in a while, earning his 14th win as the Spectres even the series with a 16-2 win.

Game 114: Rick Aguilera blows up, allowing three runs in the eighth that give San Diego a 7-5 lead. Carlos Delgado hits a bases-loaded double in the ninth, but Raul Casanova is nailed trying to score, leaving the score tied. Robb Nen then surrenders a run in the bottom of the 10th, giving the Conquistadors an 8-7 win and a series victory over Montreal.

The Spectres will try to forget this series as they head home to face Chicago.

Game 115: Ken Griffey Jr. has five hits, including three of Montreal's seven doubles, and the Spectres hold off the Bootleggers for a 7-6 win. Kelvim Escobar gets the save after Robb Nen struggles again in the ninth. Dave Burba gets the win, his 11th of the season.

Game 116: Chuck Finley pitches seven 1-hit innings, striking out nine; Willie Greene and Ken Griffey Jr. each contribute a double and home run as the Spectres win 9-0.

Game 117: More trouble for Robb Nen; he walks home the tying run in the ninth. A sac fly brings home the lead run off Bob Wickman. Montreal puts two on base in the bottom half but can't get anyone home; Chicago salvages the finale with a 5-4 comeback win. Nen suffers his fifth blown save.

The third round of divisional play begins in Philadelphia.

Game 118: Montreal hits three home runs but cannot keep the Keystones off the board and drop the opener at Philly, 8-5. Prospect Luke Wilkins enters a 5-5 game to pitch the eighth and faces three batters.. all of them score, Chris Widger chasing Wilkins with a home run.

Game 119: Tony Phillips hits his first home run of the season, but it's the only run Montreal gets. Philly gets six strong innings from Charles Nagy and sneaks away with a 2-1 win.

Game 120: Unlikely heroes: Greg Gagne homers in the ninth to send the game to extras, and Bret Boone starts a two-run rally in the 12th with a double. Montreal salvages the finale of the series, 5-3, and stays 11 games ahead of the Keystones.

Montreal heads to Shea to face the Cosmos.
