Cirillo played for one of the high schools in our league, so we faced him twice when he was a senior (I was a sophomore). He was more dominant as a pitcher though still a great hitter (he held the CA state RBI record for some time).
The first time we saw him was at our field, and he drove up in a car with vanity plates that read JC KS U. And he did. I think he struck out 16 that day (it’s been a while so forgive the memory lapse). When we went to face them at their field, our ace matched zeroes with him but eventually gave up a run on a hit and an error. Cirillo pitched a no-hitter to beat our guy’s 1-hitter.
I can’t tell you what it was like to face him, though. I was just the team statistician. That experience served me pretty well through the years, though.
