Also, I really need to find a way to draft Danny Green more often. He was at UNC with me and is my wife's favorite Tar Heel ever. (I got her a Cameo message from him for her birthday.) I just always seem to need more rebounds and/or assists from my wings.

I would never intentionally besmirch ben, he is a legend and a great guy. His team is indeed stacked.

But let's not pretend he was playing four dimensional chess in this draft. Except for maybe Deron Williams (who I am not saying was the wrong pick), he took the most obvious person at every slot. The draft just played out perfectly for him and those of us hip to it were powerless to stop it.
Perhaps this is why I'm only a pretty good owner in draft leagues, and not a great one but I think ben's team....still has some work to do? I mean things are shaping up very well, particularly for his top 2-3 teams. But I don't think it's better than kinoa's team was at the same stage last year. He's still got a lot of minutes to fill at a few positions. And I'm just not a huge fan of Artis, though I definitely agree his value goes up in this format.
I don’t think it is as good as kinoa’s team was either, but I think it is pretty clearly the best team after five rounds.

But as I said in a different post, I didn’t do all that great in season one so wtf do I know?

I really like what pharrop and cmcafeeky are doing. If they get the right backups, they could be dangerous

Some random thoughts:

jhuskow - Magic Johnson, Scottie Pippen, Bill Russell, Montrezl Harrell, Carlos Boozer: three pointers, who needs em? Tons of boards though.

20ks - Hakeem Olajuwon, Oscar Robertson, Paul George, Walt Bellamy, Reggie Miller: Holy usage overload, Batman! You know there's only one ball, right? Well, five leagues, so five balls, but...you get the point.

jcred5 - Julius Erving, Ben Wallace, Serge Ibaka, Rajon Rondo, Nicola Vucevic; and jpevans31 - Dennis Rodman, Klay Thompson, Alonzo Mourning, Derek Harper, Alvin Robertson: Trying to follow in the footsteps of Ben with the defense-first strategy. Also Thompson might make more threes than every other player on these two teams combined

cmcafeeky - James Harden, Dikembe Mutombo, Marcus Camby, Marques Johnson: lol can you imagine this team in real life? All those biug dudes crowding the lane for Harden? But in the SIM, spacing doesn't matter. Could work.

pharrop - Giannis Antetokounmpo, Rudy Gobert, Manu Ginobili, Bob McAdoo "Praying for 2019-20 seasons; otherwise we're boned." Lotta minutes to fill.

dh555 - Larry Bird, Jason Kidd, Buck Williams, Kobe Bryant: Dh and Kobe??? What is the world coming to???

ashamael - Dwight Howard, Walt Frazier, Kyrie Irving, Jerry Lucas: I'm more scared of this team than ben's. Part of any draft league is ensuring that you don't leave too many holes to fill with players that are increasingly unlikely to be there. This team left the perfect hole at SF; all kinds of great fits there.

Thanks for the kind words. One of the things I remembered when we started the ODL during the Savage (btw, **** you, Ben, for doing that / getting me back into the ODL) was how easy it was to fill SF minutes, and how few elite offensive SFs there are to hurt you. When I took Brand in Savage I, I was thinking about getting someone who could cover potential defensive weakness at PF/C instead of just drafting a guy at PF/C to do that. This is one of two reasons why I didn't go Draymond in round 3 or Donyell in round 4 even though I had them really high on my board at both spots (Draymond's turnovers were the other reason).

With my first two picks, I got 90 defense guys (well, Howard does have that outstanding 80 defense season that I'm absolutely going to use and a 70 defense season that I'm heavily considering since it has 3k minutes & over 60% efg) to guard the 5-4-2-1. I didn't have enough assists in season one, so I made sure I'd get at least 60 out of my starting 5 by picking the two combo guards. I didn't have enough boards in season one, and that's super unlike me, so that, combined with the defense thing, was why I decided to offer the Shaq trade to 24k for Howard, though I'm absofuckinglutely loving what 24k's doing with Shaq! Kyrie is my least favorite pick on the squad thus far, but he had better shooting and turnover efficiency than most of the guys I was looking at at this spot, plus tons of 3s, plus even one decent defensive season. Lucas was kind of a no brainer once I really started looking beyond his 2 or 3 most expensive seasons, as he is going to make getting close to/beyond 100% drb in the SL possible in all five of the leagues while not turning the ball over much, playing decent defense a couple of seasons, and even shooting the ball decently well.

This, to me, is where the draft starts to get interesting, and where the guys that finished near the top last season really shined. There's all kinds of great value out there, just waiting to be snatched up. Whose gonna get it? Whose gonna stick to a pre-determined plan and probably sink with said plan? This is where my head's at.

I don't know if my team will be good or ash's team will be good (his team looks really good). I can say that neither of us are egregiously repeating the mistakes of last season which is progress.

I like your team better than my Durant/Chandler team last year so far. I love Lucas but he was a luxury pick for me in the third last year last year after my board got hammered leading up to the pick (Gasol, Drexler, Moncrief) and not a great fit next to Chandler because it locked in two low-usage bigs and left me still needing a high usage player. And the guy I picked in Round 4 was the wrong choice to fill that hole; to make matters worse he wasn't a PG. Which was a terrible misread of the draft board, and left me really scrambling at PG.

You didn't make those mistakes; you picked a good wing compliment in Round 3 and then a solid PG (Porter) in Round 4. You have an easier hole to fill in Round 5 than I did. I suspect you've got a top 5 finish in the cards.

I appreciate the optimism, but you drafting around Durant versus me drafting around Durant is six of one, half a dozen of the other. I feel myself scrambling for frontcourt rebounding and minutes in a way you weren't. I think I have decided that centers and point guards are the only viable first round picks in this league and middle round picks are the worst spot to be.

But I reserve the right to change my mind ten times.

By the way, if you get a reasonable center or platoon of centers, that squad is looking nasty,

I almost always go defense-first in every league. Last SAVAGE season it was Dwight/Big Ben/Moncrief to start off. Not trying to do anything in particular that anyone did, just picking guys I like that might work together.

which numbers? Boozers, or boozer compared with someone else?

Oof. You are not kidding. He would slotted very nicely next to serge/Big Ben.
I agree and really didn't expect someone to pick him because of his D. I have D in spades and felt like I could afford it. And the eFG and Dreb fit very nicely. I was despondent when you made the pick because I've been trying to really prep to keep draft wait time down, and there was just no one like him. I did find Vucevic who actually gives a fair amount of what Boozer would have, sometimes with better D, but not as many seasons/minutes. I'll have to fill in creatively.

Give Ben the crown.
That makes me feel better, since he's picking just before me and took AD and Bobby Jones right out from under me. And my second best available for both of his other picks in rounds 1 and 4 were Gilmore (I liked Dr J's rebounding and D at the 2 as a hopeful difference maker) and Rondo just ahead of the Deron for the better assists, rebounds and more seasons of D. Danny Green is whatever.

Conclusion - maybe I can finish second?
