Hal Gill just blew another one for the B's. Please tell me that the Bruins aren't using over $7 mil per on the cap for him....

Curious as to how Hal Gill blew that one? I dont even think he was on the ice. Or is Hal Gill Chara's nickname?

What a game tonight! That was probably the best hockey I've seen all year, maybe a couple of years. You guys are in a series. Canes seem to want it a lot more...going to all the hard places, crashing the net, paying the price...

Prediciton: If Staal can get the Canes past Boston they will be playing for the cup and regardless who wins finals Staal will be playoff MVP.

Yes, I know this is a Bruins thread...I'm just super impressed right now and am not a Canes fan.

Indeed it is. The big "Z(ero)" is just a glorified Hal Gill. When teaching someone how to play defense, you need to tell them to watch Chara and don't do anything that he does. The Bruins keep running this no show bean pole out there when they need a defensive stop and then wonder why they lose.

Playing defense is not to reach but to move your feet and get there first.

And Kessel better get his skates sharpened and use a drop pass once in a while. This is the NHL, son, you are not going to skate through 4 people.

Tim's effort was wasted.

The better team won

Talent-wise, I disagree... but the Canes clearly outskated the Bruins most of the game. Hockey is all about defense and hustle.

The Bruins have clearly gone downhill since the trading deadline.

Giving up Karsums and Lashoff for the 41 year old goal post and then not getting the Cup is a complete waste. I hope that this statement won't be said after everything is done.

Get to the front of the freakin' net for god's sake and make life at least a little more difficult for Ward. Jeez, the Canes are running at Thomas from every direction, and he is worried about the blind side hits, causing him to lose focus on the puck. I thoucht that was supposed to be Rechhi's forte', causing havoc in front of the cage. If you give a goalie a clear view of a shot from the blueline, he more than likely will block it.

lol, unfortunately true, if one puts a higher priority of "better" pertaining only to higher determination and sacrifice, not to what the ability level is.

Jason York had an interesting theory today. He said Boston is trying too hard to get a matchup (Chara against Staal). He said it creates two negatives. One, Chara ends up getting tired, so he's not as effective (last night, he had 40-some odd shifts).

The second is you end up subconciously telling the other defenceman that they are no good, can't handle Staal, and hurting their confidence, so they play more passively and it hurts the team.

York's theory is that Boston is the better team, so make the Hurricanes try to create matchups, not vice versa.

i disagree with the hurting the other defensemen's feelings part. i've never heard of someone being hurt that a norris trophy candidate (and not cause of points scored) being assigned as a shutdown man over them.

teams assign shadowers all the time in the playoffs, and even sometimes at the end of the regular season to try to neutralize the other team's best player.

if chara could do his job, the rest of the bruins could outscore the canes
