Regarding pick-ups for the play-offs....There are three catagories...
1)pick-up a top line forward to push you over the top....Hossa, etc. You sell out the future to go for it NOW, if this works....CUP!! and good on you!!
2)pick-up a player who adds an instant need to your team, better back-up goalie, better second line center, top penalty killer etc. You give up a future asset for a rental player who may get you an extra round in the playoffs.
3)Depth player (Walker)Who could help our team if we had an unexpected injury etc. I would not have wasted a 7th round pick on Walker this season unless our D core was 100% healthy cause we aren't going far until our D core gets 100% healthy. We need Bieksa and Mitchell or this team goes out in the first round. Why waste a draft pick on Walker, unless he is an insurance pick-up. Face it Walker could not crack a healthy Canuck roster, so the only need to add him is for insurance.
