Game 2 of the series is Thursday afternoon. L.A. Suckerpunch has another lefty going, 1906 Beany Jacobson (7-9, 6.00) WE are throwing our top pitcher, Roy Mitchell (13-4, 2.92).

W blew a 5-0 lead with our best pitcher on the mound, although Mitchell did not get the loss, Collins did. Bill George gets the in in relief.

We got 2 in the second and 3 in the third to lead 5-0. Jacobsen settled in though and reeled off 3 scoreless innings after that. Meanwhile LA's hitters got one in the 4th, 3 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th, and one more in the 8th after we finally put a run up in the top of the 8th. Home runs for Cullenbine, Ruth, Garvey and Criger. We had 16 hits, Dickey with a double and a triple.

Series finale this evening, and now I'm begging not to get swept. LA goes with 1980 Dun Sutton (11-4, 4.09) We have Frank Corridon (4-3, 3.35) pitching.

For the first time all season we were just swept in a 3 or 4 game series. LA Suckerpunch bashed us right in the face with a 3 game sweep, topped off by today's 6-4 loss. Sutton goes all the way for the win, while Corridon takes the loss.

Of course we led 2-0 after getting 2 right away in the top of the first. Speaker scored on a PB and then Dickey with an RBI double. LA came right back with 3 in the bottom of the inning. Two run double by Babe and an RBI hit by Trammel. Bottom 2 they got one more on an RBI double from Kirk Gibson. After that nobody scored again through then end of the 7th, still 4-2 them.

Bottom 8 they get 2 more, this time off of Alcala. 6-2 now. THEN we finally score with 2 in the 9th as Ruggiano belts a 2 out 2 run HR, but Schofield then grounds out to end the game. We only got 4 hits, 2 by Dickey.

So our 12 games over .500 run is now quickly down to just 9 games over, as we start a 3 game series at home against the lowly Red Sox. They beat us 2 out of 3 last time, so we are NOT taking them lightly. First game on the overnight will have a pitching matchup of Tim Wakefield (5-13, 5.28) for them and Sam Leever (2-0, 3.45) for the Good Guys.

Okay, we beat the Red Sox, 6-5. We were down 3-1 in the 8th and put up 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th to take a 6-3 lead. Then we held them off in the 9th as they got 2 runs to make it 6-5. Leever goes 8 innings and allows 3 runs (2 earned) for the win, Fetters gets the save even though he gave up 2 runs in one inning.

The Red Sox got single runs in the second and third to lead 2-0. RBI double from Bogaerts in the second and RBI double from N. Ramirez in the third. It stayed 2-0 through 5 as Wakefield was shutting us out, Bottom 6 we finally broke through on a 2 out RBI hit from Hosmer to make it 2-1.

Pedroia with an RBI hit in the 8th to make it 3-0. Bottom 8 now, Ramon Ramirez in to pitch after Wakefield left for a pinch hitter. Here's the inning....

A 5 run rally all with 2 outs. Fetters comes in and gives up a 2 run HR to one of the Betts triplets as the Sox cut it to 6-5, but Mike regroup now with nobody on and one out, and gets Devers on a flyout to deep CF and H. Ramirez on a groundout to Agganis at 1B.

Game 2 of the series Friday afternoon. We have Carlos Martinez (1-2, 7.02) who needs a good start badly if he wants to stick around much longer. Mike Torrez (6-9, 5.72) will go for the Red Sox.

We beat the Red Sox again, 7-3 this time. For once we got an early lead and just held it. Carlos Martinez gets the win, although his WHIP for the game was 1.800. Somehow he slithered out of trouble often enough to only allow 3 runs in 6.2 innings. Alcala, Castillo and Fetters held the Red Sox scoreless the rest of the way. Fetters with his 13th save, Torrez took the loss after we battered him for 5 runs in 3.1 innings.

Bottom 1 we took a 3-0 lead on an RBI double by Cullenbine and a 2 run bomb from Dickey. They got a stick in the 4th when a run scored as Vazquez hit into a DP. We came right back bottom 4 with 2 on a 2 run triple from Speaker. Bottom 6 we made it 6-3 on an RBI single from Speaker.

Top 7 now, and they get 2 runs and knock Martinez from the game. Alcala allows an RBI single before getting a groundout to end the inning. Bottom 7 we get an insurance run to make it 7-3, which was the final score. Helms with a 2 out RBI hit. Alcala with an easy 1-2-3 inning in the 8th. Castillo in for the 9th in a non save situation. He gets 2 quick outs, but then walks a Betts and another Betts singles, so Fetters comes in. Fetters walks Devers to load the bases. H. Ramirez is the tying run at the plate, but Fetters strikes him out swinging for the save.

THREE STARS
1. Tris Speaker - single, double, triple, run, 3 RBI
2. Bill Dickey - 2 run HR
3. Jorge Alcala - 1.1 scoreless innings in the 7th and 8th, hold.

If we can finish off a 3 game sweep of the Red Sox this evening we can get back to 12 games over where we were before LA Sucker punched us 3 straight. The Red Sox are going with lefty 1932 Bob Weiland (3-15, 8.85). We've got Roy Mitchell (13-4, 3.02). If we don't win this it will be embarrassing.

We are back where we were 6 games ago, 12 games over .500, but 6 games have gone by. Mitchell did not pitch that well today. He gave up 5 runs in 7 innings, but we were able to win 6-5 in walkoff fashion in the 10th. Harry Simpson with the walkoff RBI single to win it. Daniel Hudson gets the win after pitching a scoreless top 10. We hung the loss on Rod Beck.

We were down 3-0 and 5-4, but came back to tie it and then win it in 10. They got 3 in the top of the first. We got one in the third on an RBI single from Simpson. The Sox got one if the 5th to make it 4-1. Bottom 5 and we tied it on a 2 run double by Simpson and an RBI double by Helms, 4-4. Bogaerts solo HR leading off the 6th gave them a 5-4 lead. A 2 out pinch hit RBI single by Dickey tied it in the 7th.

Neither team could score in the 8th or 9th, even though we had first and second with no outs in the 9th. Top 10 and Daniel Hudson mows down the Red Sox 1-2-3. Bottom 10 now, Beck still in after pitching the 9th. Cullenbine walsk and just barely gets to third on Buxton's single. Simpson up now, already with 3 hits and 3 RBI. Harry hits a short flyball to LF that falls in for a game winning single.

1. Harry Simpson - 4 hits, 4 RBI, double, and game winning single.
2. Lou Boudreau - 3 for 6 including 487th double, 2 runs

Another new series starts on the overnight. This time we are at the Yard Dogs for 3 games. They are 50-58, second in the AL East, but 14 games out of first place. We are now 60-48, third in the AL Central, 13 games out of first and 9 games out of second. The games are in Dodger Stadium. For game one we have 1946 Red Ruffing on the mound (2-0, 4.05). The Dogs have 1968 Juan Marichal (14-11, 3.95) going.

Okay, we just kicked off the Yard Dogs series with a nice 5-2 win. We were down 2-1 and put up a 4 spot in the top of the 9th. Ruffing went 7 and allowed just 2 runs despite 12 baserunners. The win went to Castillo in relief, he's 3-0 now. Poncedeleon picked up his third save, and still has not allowed a run. The Dogs used 7 pitchers, with the loss going to Charlie Smith.

We took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI single from Simpson. The Dogs got one on the 4th and one in the 5th to take a 2-1 lead. RBIs from Padgett and Page. After that there was no scoring by either team in the 6th, 7th or 8th. Top 9 now, we're down 2-1, with Charlie Smith on the mound looking to close us out. Here is the inning...

Buxton with the monster clutch 2 out 3 run double off of Henke to give us a 5-2 lead. Buxton was given the start in LF with Simpson going to 1B and Hosmer sitting, and it worked out pretty good. Poncedeleon came on for the 9th, and the Dogs got first and second with one out, but Poncy bore down and struck out the league's leading hitter Eddie Murray looking and then struck out Tommy Davis swinging to end the game.

1. Byron Buxton - 3 run double in the 9th to give us the lead.
2. Daniel Poncedeleon - Scoreless 9th for the save including striking out both Murray and Davis as the tying runs to end the game.
3. Red Ruffing - 7 innings allowing just 2 ER.

Game 2 of the series Saturday afternoon. Sonny Siebert (3-7, 3.63) chucks for the Yard Dogs, who are 31-25 on the road, but just 19-34 at home now. We are going with Sam Leever (3-0, 3.19).

A 7-3 loss today to the Yard Dogs. We led 2-0 in the first, and it was 2-2 into the 6th, but the Dogs put up 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th and held us off the rest of the way. Leever took the loss, and Steve Mingori got the win in relief.

The top 2 hitters in the Y-Dogs lineup did most of the damage. Patsy Donovan a triple and a single with 2 runs scored, and Cliff Floyd 3 for 4, double, 2 runs, 2 RBI. Simpson had 2 hits and 2 RBI for us.
