so i was bidding on a free agent once worldwide f.a. opened. he was not a stud, but a pretty good player. i offered him what he asked for and got the 'youre in the lead' email since the first cycle. first thing next morning he doesn't sign. no biggie. i think maybe someone else offered him what he asked for and will maybe start a bidding war. but i got no 'we got a better offer' email and don't raise my offer. the whole day goes by and he still doesn't sign. finally he signed first thing on the 3rd morning in. but i'm wondering what happened in the meantime to make him wait it out. did people 'test the water' on him and decide that he wasn't worth bidding up?

It seems that some players have a set time to sign even if there are no other bids.  I've sat on high bid for days on players.

do type a's and type b's wait longer than non 'ranked' guys, do you think?

I think they do but only because of their ratings.  I think the "waiters" have higher ratings and aren't necessarily A/B-types.

Is there a special place in hell for snarky people like ESPN's Rick Reilly, who seemed to be relishing the prospect of another Rory McIlroy meltdown over the weekend in his closing comments on Friday? And relishing might have been understating it....

I'm pretty sure there's a special spot in hell for pompous pricks like Reilly without his comments on Friday.

Was it an economically wise decision for NBC to omit "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance yesterday?

I don't think it will have much impact economically.    The publicity they'll get over it will offset the odd sponsor that might pull a commercial.
