The Flames making room for Kovalchuk?

It wouldn't make any sense. Kovalchuk will command 7 mil. plus on a new multi year deal and with so much cap space already tied up with Iggy, Kipper, Regehr and Bouwmeester, I don't think they can afford another salary in that range. Unless they make him a rental, but that doesn't seem like Sutter's style.

However if they are indeed trading Kotalik, presumably in a package deal, I could see them maybe going after a Ray Whitney instead.

I could defintely see renting Kovalchuk to get rid of Kotalik's unwanted salary... obviously more than Kotalik is required... Whitney is more likely though, Atlanta will want to wait ti.ll the trade deadline

Calgary plays Carolina tomorrow though and apparently Kotalik was told to stay in NY... either Sutter is smart and wants to back hand Carolina by not having Kotalik in Calgary to play for Carolina, or something else is in the works

I have to stop listening to bad sources

Alot more...if you believe the reports Atlanta is looking for 2 good young roster players, a 1st round draft pick and 2-3 good prospects. Calgary simply does not have that kind of depth in their system. I see Kovy landing in either LA or maybe St.Louis whether it be by the deadline, draft or on July 1st.

Defintely need some time to gel after last night.. yuck.. keep telling myself we were on fire last year when we first got Jokinen and he lit it up... we all know where that went.. so now we are doing the reverse this year.. I am stretching it with this spin job.. but hey

Don't put too much stock in that game nick. 4 new faces in the dressing room, 1 for sure "lame duck" (Jokinen - man that must have been awkward for everybody) That whole team must not have known if they were coming or going.

Phaneuf is a cocky *****, ask anybody who has ever run into the guy, Regehr and a lot of other guys took exception

First I hear of this, but one of the guys (can't remember who, unfortunately) on TSN mentioned how Phaneuf came to be known as "2-20" because in his second year in the NHL, he was acting like he's been around for 20 seasons. If this is true, than I would think that's where any possible feud stems from.
Its been long known in Calgary that Regehr was not happy being partnered with Dion and they have had many conflicts

What happened to Phaneuf's game? A few seasons ago, he was THE hot young d-man in the league. Now he gets traded for less than value and Flames fans are happy about it.

I expect more than the standard answer about Cuthbert's cooter ruining him and his game.

A few seasons ago, he would score, hit, fight and work hard all the time.. he was our top d man and he led our team in PIMS... He was nominated for the Norris and was on the verge of super stardom.. That was the first year under Keenan and he last year as a entry level contract.. he got 6.5 mil as a reward

Then last season was horrendous, he stopped answering the bell for his hits and as a result, stopped hitting with any frequency... he is marginal defensively to say the least... and he also stopped scoring... he got his raise, he got Cuthbert, he was obviously cocky with his one handed rushes.. when people pushed, he skated away.. he started having attitude conflicts in the dressing room and the stories are rampant around town about running into him at the bar and just how big of a dick he was.. he was above the game and above the team

I am frankly surprised at how much we got for him, I thought Toronto overpaid... if not for the past two seasons, he would never have been traded.. if he can rejuvenate his career in TO, great for him, but it wasnt happening in Calgary... he was just a cap space eater

Dion is the best when he plays with edge and is in the game phyisically... he has the mental capacity of a turd (if you seen any of his interviews that is very obvious)... he lost his edge in Calgary... if this guy is not physical, he is not going to do anything... just watch when he goes back for the puck on the pp

he does sound pretty dumb....but he did fight last night...visor on
