Final transaction of the season. Grabowski released before he got into a game. I picked up 1909 Lou Fiene. I needed someone with at least 66 real life innings to keep me over 1200 innings, and I had about 1.4 million to spend. Kept checking the waiver wire like every 2 hours for someone who would work.

We just took game one of the Balking series, 7-2. Ray Collins goes 8 innings for the win, allowing just 2 runs. Cy Morgan takes his third loss of the year against a spot starter. We were down 2-1, but we put up 6 runs in the top of the 7th.

Balking scored first with 2 runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI double from Coleman, who then scored on Max Carey single. And that was it. Balking was through scoring for the day. In the top of the 4th we got a run on a 2 out infield hit by Simpson. The game was decided in the top of the 7th when we scored 6 runs. The rally started with 2 outs and nobody on. Here's how it went:

J.Ryan enters the game to pitch.
H.Simpson grounds a single to RCF. R.Cullenbine scores.
T.Leach hits a flyball 3-run homer to CF.
E.Hosmer grounds a single to RCF.
T.Helms hits a line drive single to LF.
R.Collins grounds out to 2B.

We got 8 consecutive hits as we sent 11 men to the plate, with Collins making 2 outs in the inning. That made it 7-2, and Collins pitched 2 more scoreless innings before leaving after 102 pitches. Poncedeleon finished up and got 3 outs in the 9th on just 9 pitches, which included a leadoff double. But he then got 3 straight groundouts to keep his scoreless innings streak alive. He still has not given up a run this season.

1. Ray Collins - Goes 8 innings for the win and allows just 2 runs.
2. Tommy Leach - 3 run homer and a walk.

Game 2 of this series is on Tuesday Afternoon. Balking is going with southpaw Edie Plank (15-5, 2.65) We are sending Sam Leever (4-1, 4.65) to the hill. Dickey now at 95, will get a day off with Pignatano ready to squat.

Balking just sandpapered us, 11-2. We were due for one of these sooner or later. Leever got battered for 10 hits and 9 runs in just 4 innings. Lou Fiene and George Kontos each made their debuts for the team, going 2 innings each. Eddie Plank (18-5), went 8 innings for the win.

They put up 4 runs right away in the first. We got one back in the second, but they got 5 more in the 4th to lead 9-1, and that was that. Eddie Murray was 2 for 4, 2 runs and 3 RBI. Ketel Marte was 3 for 5 with a double, a run, and 4 RBI. Jose Ramirez was 3 for 3, walk, double, 2 run, RBI. Max Carey 1 for 2, 2 walks, 2 runs. We got 8 hits, one each by the first 7 guys in the batting order, and one by Fiene. 7 singles and a triple from Leach.

Balking takes the rubber game of the series 5-4 on a walkoff hit by Roberto Alomar. Alcala takes the loss as Fetters gives up the hit that ends the game. Poncedeleon is still unscored upon as he went 1.2 scoreless innings. Ralph Comstock gets the win as he relieved Mariano Rivera in the 9th after Rivera blew the save.

We got a run in the second on an RBI single by Helms, then got 2 more in the 5th on RBI singles by Dickey and Simpson to lead 3-0 after 5 innings. Bottom 6 nd Balking puts up 4 runs to take a 4-3 lead. Top 9 and Simpson has a bloop 2 out single against Rivera to tie the game. Bottom 9 now, and Alcala pitching with 2 outs and a runner on first. Carey walks to put the winning run at second. Fetters enters the game to pitch to Alomar, and gives up a line single to RF. Cullenbine makes a strong throw home, but Haslin just slides in safely to end the game.

Okay, we beat Target Best in the opening game of the series,7-3. deGrom goes 7.2 innings and gives up 3 runs for the win. George Kontos got he last 4 outs on just 12 pitches. Kluber took the loss.

We took a 1-0 lead after one inning as Speaker scored on Cullenbine's groundout. Target tied it in the third on Connor's RBI hit. Bottom 4 and deGrom blasts a 2 run HR to give himself a 3-1 lead. Bottom 5 and Cullenbine doubles home Boudreau to make it 4-1. Kluber was pinch hit for in the top of the 7th, so Greg Smith came in to pitch the bottom of the frame. We proceeded to score 3 runs in the inning. RBI hits by Dickey and Simpson, and then Dickey scored on a passed ball by Schang. As I figured. Schang was actually gonna catch rather than Caratini. We had broken the game wide open now at 7-1.

Top 8 now, and with 2 outs and nobody on deGrom seemed to tire as he gave up a hit, a walk, and then a 2 run double to McCreery. He was up to 108 pitches at that point, so with the score 7-2 Weaver came out and took the ball from Jake, and gave it to Kontos, who promptly retired Schang to end the inning. 7-3. now. We had 2 on with on out in the bottom of the 8th, but Boudreau hit into a double play to kill that threat. No problem though, as Kontos had a quick 1-2-3 inning in the 9th to close out the game.

1. Jacob deGrom - goes 7.2 innings for the win and belts a 2 run HR.
2. Roy Cullenbine - 1 for 3, walk, double, run, 2 RBI

Game 2 of the Target series is Wednesday afternoon. We've got portsider Jack Doscher Jr. (3-0, 1.67) pitching. He's gone at least 8 innings in all 3 of his starts and hasn't allowed more than 2 runs in any game. He has walked 18 in 27 innings, but has allowed just 13 hits. He has no durability at all, but he's still been a steal for $899K. Target is going with 1909 Cliff Curtis (3-2, 3.41).

Target just returned the favor and beat us pretty good at 7-2. Cliff Curtis with the win, and Doscher takes the loss in his first bad game all season.

Target led 7-0 until we got a couple of runs in the 9th. Carey and Daly had 3 hits each, Carey a double, Daly a HR. McCreery with 3hits and Bancroft went 4 for 4. Boudreau with 2 hits including his 47th double. Ruggiano bating for Helms in the 9th had a 2 run double.

Rubber game of the Target series this evening. Target throws Crazy Pascual Perez (10-6, 2.95). We are going with Sam Leever (4-2, 5.80). First time all season that my starting pitcher will be blow 100 on fatigue as Leever is at 99.

Damn, I knew it!

I tried hard to get rid of Leever before the deadline, but there was no one on waivers who I could afford who had the requisite innings (166) that I needed to stay over 1200. Naturally ho goes out today and gets bombed, 12-2, giving up 6 runs in 6.2 innings with a WHIP of 2.248. Meanwhile Pascual Pere held us to 3 hits and one walk over 8 innings, one run.

Target had 16 hits and 7 walks. Connor with 4 hits, Jones with 5 RBI, and Schang with 3 hits and 3 RBI. Hosmer homered and Buxton had an RBI double for our 2 runs.

New series on the overnight. We are at Northern Stars X, games will be played at Dodger Stadium. Again we will face 3 righties. First game is Cy Falkenberg (8-6, 3.76). We are sending Roy Mitchell (14-4, 3.22) to the bump.

What's going on here?

We just lost our third in a row, and got shut out 5-0 by Northern Stars X. Falkenberg scattered 8 hits in 7 innings and got the win. Roy Mitchell took the loss.
