Montreal continues its divisional competition with a trip to Pittsburgh.
Game 17: The offense reappears as the Spectres get 12 hits in a 10-5 win over the Boilers. Ken Caminiti drives home three runs as does AAA catcher Darrick Hensel. Scott Erickson throws six solid innings and picks up his first win of the season.
Game 18: Pittsburgh rallies for four runs in the eighth off Jim Gott, capped by an Ozzie Smith three-run homer, and the Boilers even the series with a 9-5 win. Alex Fernandez has a rough outing, allowing 10 hits and striking out only one. Tony Phillips reaches base four times but doesn't score at all.
Game 19: Pittsburgh's Brian Barnes throws seven one-hit innings and the Spectes fall again, 4-1. Bill Krueger has one of his best starts of the season (three runs in six innings) but falls to 0-2.
Game 20: Montreal manages a split with the Boilers when they take the finale 8-7 when they rally for two in the ninth, the eventual winner scoring on an error by Pittsburgh outfielder Chili Davis. Rick Aguilera pitches a 1-2-3 bottom half for his second save. Jay Buhner has three hits and lifts his average above .200.
Our first two interleague matchups will be against Oakland (10-10) and Seattle (8-12).
8/7/2007 2:34 PM
Game 21: Oakland's Roger Clemens scatters 10 hits with 12 strikeouts, and Chuck Finley is shredded, falling to 0-5, as the Oaks win at Montreal, 9-5.
Game 22: The Oaks lay waste to Scott Erickson and the Spectres fall to 6-16 with a 9-4 loss. Ken Griffey Jr. and Greg Gagne homer for Montreal but the early deficit is too big to overcome.
Game 23: Alex Fernandez overcomes his inefficient offense, pitching eight shutout innings to beat Seattle 3-0 as the Spectres collect 11 hits but strand nearly all of them. Pete O'Brien personally leaves eight people on base in his five at bats. Rick Aguilera gets the save.
Game 24: Ken Griffey Jr. and Greg Gagne homer for the second time in three games, and the Spectres lose for the second straight time when that occurs. John Smiley throws a complete game for the Emeralds, who win the game 4-2.
Montreal heads home to finish the first round of divisional play with a visit from division leaders, Philadelphia (15-9).
8/8/2007 9:51 PM
Game 25: Philly's David West gets his first win of the season, throwing seven shutout innings as the Keystones take the opener, 3-0. JAy Buhner doubles and Ken Griffey Jr. singles. Those were the offensive highlights. This team is in trouble.
Game 26: Another start for Chuck Finley, another loss (and another pathetic showing at the plate). Philly wins, 7-2 as Travis Fryman hits two homers.
Game 27: Ben McDonald and Joe Grahe combine to shut out the Spectres, 7-0, and Scott Erickson falls to 1-5. Montreal gets four hits, all singles, draws no walks, and strikes out 11 times.
Game 28: Philly sweeps, scoring seven times in the first three innings off Alex Fernandez and holding on for a 10-9 win. Tony Phillips is 4-4 with three runs scored, including his third homer. At least the offense did something for a change.
At 7-21 we are in real danger of missing out on the draft lottery. Interleague sets with Minneosota (14-14) and Baltimore (19-9) are up next.

Game 29: Bill Krueger throws eight brilliant innings and Ken Griffey Jr. has four hits, including a homer, as the Spectres defeat Minnesota 7-1 at Olympic Stadium.
Game 30: Ken Caminiti blasts a three-run homer and catcher Ron Hassey hits his first longball of the season as the Spectres sweep Minnesota with an 8-3 victory. Dennis Rasmussen improves to 2-1 on the season.
Game 31: Chuck Finley falls to 0-7 as Walt Terrell and Donn Pall throw a two-hit shutout to beat the Spectres 6-0. Finley is not completely blameless in his horrible start (6.85 ERA) but he didn't get any help in this one.
Game 32: Montreal salvages a split with Baltimore, winning this one 8-5. Greg Gagne has three hits and four RBI while the top three batters in the lineup score twice each. Scott Erickson picks up his second win.
We're off to House of Horrors (Wrigley Field) to face the Bootleggers.
8/11/2007 11:09 PM
Game 33: Chicago's Juan Guzman strikes out 11 and walks only one in seven one-hit innings as the Bootleggers roll to a 7-0 win in the opener. Ken Griffey Jr. has Montreal's only two hits.
Game 34: Montreal gets on the board in the second game, but not enough to recover from the five runs Chicago puts on the board in the first two innings off Bill Krueger. Bootleggers get a home run from Glenn Braggs and win, 7-3.
Game 35: Chicago sweeps, limiting the Spectres to three hits in another shutout, 8-0.
Interleague play with Detroit and Kansas City awaits. Montreal is 10-25.
8/12/2007 11:26 PM
Game 36: Jay Buhner hits a three-run homer to highlight a six-run seventh inning, and for the first time this season, the Spectres win a game started by Chuck Finley, 8-3. Finley had departed before the big inning, however, so he remains winless.
Game 37: Detroit jumps on Scott Erickson for seven runs in the first two innings, then hangs on for an 8-5 win behind Tom Candiotti, despite homers from Ken Caminiti and Jay Buhner.
Game 38: Kansas City gets a three-run homer from Dave Henderson, but that's all the damage the Blue Devils can do against Alex Fernandez; Montreal gets contributions from up and down the lineup and take the opening game 4-3.
Game 39: Montreal gets 14 hits at Kansas City, but Bill Krueger gives up nearly that many in 4.1 innings of work. The Blue Devils romp, 12-4.
We return home for our first matchup with San Francisco.
8/13/2007 10:00 PM

Game 41: Ken Caminiti homers twice with four RBI, but the Niners get homers from Rob Deer and Robin Yount to beat Chuck Finley, 10-7.
Game 42: Jack Clark commits three more errors, Ken Caminiti drives in four runs, and the Spectres take the series from Frisco with an 11-5 win. Scott Erickson throws six solid innings and improves to 3-6.
We're off to Cincinnati to face the Stingers.
8/15/2007 6:58 AM
Game 43: Knuckleballer Charlie Hough continues his mastery over Montreal, beating Alex Fernandez 2-1 in the opener. The Spectres manage only four hits.
Game 44: Ken Griffey Jr. has his best game in a while, blasting two homers with four RBI, and the bullpen throws 3.1 scoreless innings as the Spectres even the series with an 8-3 win.
Game 45: Montreal wins its second straight series, scoring six runs in the ninth to break open a tie game and win 9-4. Gerardo Grey, AAA first baseman, has three RBI in his best performance of the season.
Montreal has improved to 16-29, which is now a better record than our next opponent, San Diego (15-30), who visits Montreal tomorrow.
Ken Caminiti, Ken Griffey Jr., and Jay Buhner are tied for the team lead with eight homers apiece. Griffey Jr.'s 36 RBI is by far the best
8/16/2007 7:08 AM
Game 46: Chuck Finley walks seven batters in five innings as the Spectres are crushed by the Leaguers, 11-1, in the opener.
Game 47: Tony Phillips doubles, homers, and drives home three runs as the Spectres even the series with an 8-2 win. Scott Erickson lasts six innings and improves to 4-6. Besides Phillips' heroics, Montreal hits four doubles and a triple.
Game 48: Gerardo Grey is starting to hit a little bit.. after tripling in yesterday's contest, he doubles and drives home two runs in this one to spark a 4-2 win over the Leaguers. Alex Fernandez is brilliant for eight innings to even his record at 4-4.
More interleague play ahead as we face Toronto and Washington over the next four games.
8/17/2007 6:38 AM
Game 49: Toronto's George Bell has four RBI while Montreal's Ken Griffey Jr. is 0-5 with eight runners stranded.. the Maple Syrups win easily, 8-3.
Game 50: Ken Griffey Jr. homers and Bill Sampen throws three scoreless innings to pick up his second save as the Spectres even things up with Toronto, winning 9-3 at their place.
Game 51: Chuck FINLEY!!!!! wakes up, realizes he faces his old team, Washington, and throws EIGHT SHUTOUT INNINGS FOR HIS FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON!!!!! Jay Buhner's homer provides the only run he needs as the Spectres win 1-0.
Game 52: Washington has their revenge as Todd Stottlemyre goes the distance and strikes out 10 Spectres in an 8-2 win. Montreal doesn't score until the bottom of the ninth.
The second round of divisional play waits on the other side of a visit from St. Louis (38-14).
8/18/2007 7:15 AM
Game 53: Montreal holds former Spectre Andre Dawson hitless in five at bats, stranding four runners, but the Blue Storm doesn't need a lot of offense with Greg Maddux on the mound. Maddux improves to 11-1 as St. Louis scores single runs in four different innings for a 4-2 win.
Game 54: Bills Krueger and Sampen both take a beating as the Blue Storm dominates another game, 14-3. Todd Zeile has five hits and Andre Dawson drives home three runs.
Game 55: Montreal salvages the finale against St. Louis, getting a two-run single from AAA infielder Carlos Wolf in the bottom of the eighth to take a 3-2 lead. Rick Aguilera closes out for his 9th save.
At 21-34, we prepare to host the 30-25 Cosmos to start the second round of divisonal play.
8/19/2007 2:11 PM
Game 56: Chuck Finley leaves the game with a 5-5 tie after the sixth, but Ron Gant hits his 16th home run off Jim Gott in the seventh to give New York a lead they never give up; Cosmos win 7-5. Finley's ERA is now 6.81.
Game 57: Scott Erickson pitches two-hit ball for eight innings and the Spectres get homers from Tony Phillips and Greg Gagne in a 4-2 win. Rick Aguilera reaches double digits with his 10th save.
Game 58: New York's Mark Langston controls the Spectre lineup and the Cosmos take the series with an 8-5 win in the finale. Montreal puts together a three-run rally off Mike Hartley in the eighth but can't get any closer.
We host Pittsburgh (24-34) next.
8/20/2007 3:36 PM
Game 59: Bill Krueger has a rough outing, allowing 10 runs before leaving in the fourth, and the Boilers win a laugher, 16-4. Ron Karkovice hits his first home run for the Spectres.
Game 60: The drive for third place hits another setback as the Boilers score three in the first off Dennis Rasmussen and hold on for a 7-5 win. One hopeful sign for Montreal is a homer by Pete O'Brien, who is hitting below .200 so far.
Game 61: AAA prospect Sean Pittman has three hits, including two doubles, a stolen base, and four RBI as the Spectres salvage the finale with an 10-4 win. Chuck Finley allows only three runs in six innings to pick up his second victory. Montreal breaks it open with a seven-run sixth inning.
We head to Philadelphia to complete this round of divisonal play.
8/21/2007 2:52 PM
Game 62: Montreal scores twice in the first but is shut down the rest of the day. The pitchers keep it close, but Philly scores the winner in the eighth after a hit batter and a stolen base set up Chico Walker for a game-winning single.
Game 63: Pete O'Brien continues his recent hot streak with two hits and two RBI (now hitting .213), but those are the only runs Tommy Greene allows all day. He throws a complete game and the Keystones win 8-2.
Game 64: Ben McDonald and Scott Radinsky combine to two-hit the Spectres, and Philly scores a run in the bottom of the ninth to win 1-0. It was a close series but we couldn't get a win. Offense is really struggling.
We play the PL New York entry (Bronx Diamonds) next.
