Scouting Services & Potential Topic

It would be interesting to know the differences in what a high potential and low potential will look like. Also how much effect WE will still have.

The potential thing is nice, but in reality do any of us really KNOW what kind of potential someone has? I mean, look at some players that went straight from high school to the NBA. I'm sure they all had great "potential" in the eyes of various scouting services, but how many of them actually make it? There are NBA teams that spent tons of money scouting these guys, signed them to multi-million dollar contracts, and then watched them bust.

The point being, I hope WIS puts something in place so sometimes the scouting reports are just plain wrong. A guy with low potential comes in and actually grows 6 inches and becomes an all conference PF. Or a can't miss recruit comes in and never improves much at all, despite a great WE and high potential on the scouting reports. That's reality.

One last thing would be when they sign can you see there potiental if you didn't scout em? If I took over a team that looked good I would hate for it to be all maxed out guys who reached there potential. Also, it would be cool to see them max out soon. For example you might have a guy with decent potential and then in a season or 2 be pretty much maxed out. That'd be realistic.

Nice addition ....

that should be for DI teams only.

Agree 100% mully. Great point. This is too much for the lower divisions and should be an added challenge and an incentive to advance to D1.

Based on the limited info we have been given, here is how I see this.

Pros:

It gives us something else to control and gain player info from

It may give us a better idea of whether to go after a certain prospect or not based on possible recruiting battles and/or additional cash needed to overcome the prospects preferences

Notice of your standing with the prospect during recruiting

Cons:

Only available during in-season recruiting

Additional (variable) cost to use

More info to evaluate thus increasing time involved in recruiting

No school preferences for DII/DIII schools - all recruits will prefer DI schools

No individual player preference. If I am only interested in 1 or 2 players from a given state, I still have to buy the whole state to get the info.

A quick and easy fix would be to not have scouting services at d3 to keep coaches from using a FREEHD team to scout for them. Just like they don't allow boosters.

Just wondering how you would make it for d-i only. Do only d-i recruits have potential? If only d-i recruits have potential, how will they dropdown to d-ii, do they lose their potential when that happens? Also, if there is potential, then there is probably a need for scouting services as well. Also, can't say how widely used at d-iii until we know how much it costs.

That won't stop other schools scouting for div II schools or info being shared through out the conf/friends.

The only other "pro" I see is giving a nudge to the little guy in D1.
It can now be possible at New Orleans to get a guy with upside that LSU may ignore, and see him make Dwyane Wade-ish contributions in his 3rd-4th year.

I think they mean only having scouting services available for d1 and at d2/3 you can find out through evals and such.

I'm surprised this recruiting service "feature" isn't inspired by fox owned scout.com

Hopefully evals will give you there individual potential. I wouldn't wanna scout all of washington just because theres 1 recruit there I like.
