if I select Koufax whos 1st WIS year is in 1955 I can skip 6 years and start at 1961
11/18/2009 10:53 AM

Yes sir...

1961 is Koufax's 1st $5 mil+ season, so you can start from there as his 1st Season.

That will open up the League to getting good Draftable talent at all positions right away rather than have to carry someone as great as Koufax on your Roster for all those mediocre seasons. Not that $5 mil+ will always be a good season for a Pitcher or Hitter, but it's a good start. * And if there is a season of any player that you'd prefer to start with that is less than $5 mil (or less than $3 mil for WIS listed relievers) you can opt for that season instead.

Welcome cobb! Glad to have ya ! Just need 4 more folks looking for a fun interesting Draft League

Once we fill up, I'll check with everyone's schedules & see when the best time to Draft will be. I know that Thanksgiving, Christmas & Hanukkah are coming down the pike, so we may do an off-clock Draft until after New Years... Assuming of course that we fill this League by then ! :-))

and you can change your mind to fit your team anytime up til the start.
dlrawson brought up an excellent example- Vida Blue -- amazing 1971 season $ 5 mil +, also a great 1970 under $5 mil, so you could opt for either.

Blue, Vida 1969 Oakland Athletics L 42 1 1 1 6.64 1.60 .290 5.14 3.86 $374,595 B/D-
Blue, Vida 1970 Oakland Athletics L 39 2 0 0 2.10 0.83 .152 8.15 2.79 $1,897,610 B/B
Blue, Vida 1971 Oakland Athletics L 314 24 8 0 1.82 0.95 .189 8.68 2.54 $11,545,546 A+/D

Maybe it is me but why is this worded this way if you can begin with any year at any price????

Am I missing something?

Shouldn't it just read I can start my player at any point during their career??

You can't pick ANY season, but you can start the players you Draft "Rookie Season" at their 1st $5 million + season...

When you talk about everyone that has ever played the game- $5 mil is kind of a mediocre season for most full time players, but with $5 mil you should get a full 500 AB's or so. The idea is that you get a full-time usable season as your first season for everybody. You don't get stuck drafting 25 rookie "future stars" with 200 PA's that hit .215...

So it is a Progressive where you Draft & keep usable guys right off from season 1.
And with 15 Keepers & Cut players becoming free agents and Progressing as Free Agents season to season, it'll mirror real life and give us new guys to bring back into the League every season. Everything will be tracked on Excell and posted as to what seasons the Free Agents are in. Also avilable to be drafted every year will be any new $ 5 + Rookies guys may want to draft & bring into the League. (or less if you opt for that cheaper season).
Gives every Owner a lot of creative leeway in how you put your teams together season to season.

But then I could not start at Vida Blue's 1970 season...right??
11/21/2009 12:42 AM

You could start him in 1970 if you wanted to.
That's the main option, you can always downgrade.

Like for relievers, there's a crapload of great reliever seasons out there that are cheaper than $3 mil.
And there's a lot of 1-year wonders as relievers and part-time or 1-year stud hitters that we might see year one & then dropped and disappear forever. Terry Shumpert for example. Guys like Guidry that have a great season or 2 and then may not be able to be "studs" until further on down the road can be dropped, progressed and then picked up in another peak year. So guys that have up and down careers will at least start on a $5 mil + season (unless you choose a cheaper one) may me jobless free agents ever few years until they have another good year and are picked up by another team in the off-season Draft. Kind of like the Winter Meetings, lol. Scouting out who's available and will help you win that year.

Sczubelek has offered to help me track all of the players so that I can post their current season, but I think with Excell I could handle it. I'll just add a players to our "League Database" as they are drafted alphabetically with year, salary, and who owns them. I could post everyone's roster every year (maybe leave out the salaries) as well as all of the cut free agents until they retire from WIS.
