Top players still resign too easily Topic

Except win championships, apparently

I've got one. That's enough for me. Keeps the target off my back.

As far your comment on salaries, it's complete BS. Halladay doesn't get CC money unless the Yanks offer it. That's pretty much how MLB works. In HBD, the market is set by 32 individuals. And it's different in every world because those 32 individuals vary from world to world. I've seen guys go unsigned that I thought would command 11m and I've seen players get 5y/110m when I thought they'd be lucky to get 3y/30m.

I agree with the original point of discussion here... that some players still re-sign for much cheaper than they should, which then in turn can force people to run out and sign old, declining pitchers because there's nothing else on the market to sign.

Vic Clarke and Parker Wilson in my world are a couple of good type A's completely willing to sign long-term deals post-arb. I noticed that top pitchers around 30 years old are pretty rare coming to free agency though.

I'd prefer if 95% of Type A's were asking for whatever the highest amount was just signed from free agency the past 2 seasons. I'm pretty sure that'd help get more guys to market when you have someone signing for 18 mill per season. But it'd also give the owner the opportunity to keep the player around, just not at the steep discount they can currently get.

You're also autonomously determining what players should sign for. I just had a Type B get ignored in ABU. I'm sure I have an A and a B about to get ignored in Coop.

I'll repeat this:

This gives an owner the chance to keep their player at a larger rate than it generally would take to lock someone up before hitting the market, but also will end up putting more top players on the market so all 32 owners can decide the value of a player instead of 1 owner and the sim.

Which 5% of Type A gets the pass? Do they sign for the low, low discount price?
10/6/2009 4:19 PM
So you'd rather one owner sets the market for everyone?
10/6/2009 4:20 PM
Yes, that's exactly what he wants. If I break out the stupid pen and sign FA for a ridiculous price, everyone pays the bills.

Its a fairly good system as it is right now. I wish that it was more tiered so that more players would be willing to stay but they would ask for anything from a large to absurd contract, but I can live with it as it is now, I just think its a little too predictable who will or will not stay.

Right now I know my Stud 27 year old pitcher will declare for free agency. The reason I know is because he has a high overall rating and he is young. It would be nice if there was a variable that allowed him a certain chance he asked for a large contract anywhere from say 10 mil a season to 20 mil a season.

"If I break out the stupid pen and sign FA for a ridiculous price, everyone pays the bills."

You don't *need* to re-sign them. If you can get them cheaper in FA, go for it. But at least this method removes the discounts for top players that still occurs frequently.

At least it's less frequent now, but it could simply be better.

Looks like a moot discussion. Changes will be made on 11/3.
