Might just be my personal rule but. . I woudl never, under any circumstances, go for a player that far away unless they were somehow truly exceptional: I can usually find an equivalent much closer, cheaper, and save more money to carry on to next season. . and not risk spending it for nothing. For a long time I pretty much didn't go out of Massachusetts. I've expanded a bit to surrounding states, but still, I much prefer going for the best players near me to trying to win contests at a distance.]

thank you very much for the tip arssanguinus. I dont have to recruit next season except to replace the walkon but I am definitely going to try and stay in my home state. Like I said I just thought I could pry him away fairly easily. Again I truly appreciate the input as I really seem to be struggling with any kind of consistency

We have a new addition to the waitlist. Please welcome rolltide08 and Framingham State to the Shootout.

Yeah look out when Framingham gets in, they just beat us down. As for recruiting close to home, I used to subscribe to you can find someone better, but that was not the case. Now I recruit everywhere, from Florida to New Mexico. As long as you do not get into battles it can be cheap. Battles drain money and you mihgt not get a player.

I agree with andersaa about the recruiting on a broader basis. When I started out in D3, I more or less stuck to the 300-400 mile range as well. What I realized, especially as I was able to build William Paterson up, is that if you have a high prestige, can be smart with your money, and have the good fortune of being able to build a larger bankroll (i.e. through post season play), you can really expand your reach even at D3. Of my 11 scholarship players this season, only 4 would be considered "local" (NY NJ PA). I have a guy from each of North Carolina, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Idaho, South Dakota and Florida.

Key to D3 recruiting at distance is to not overstep your prestige if a possible battle looms. It's just not worth it.

Well, yes. I am, starting to break my rule now. But I am not going to get into any serious battles at that distance - and I will always look to see if I can find someone equivalent closer first. If I am going to battle, it will be for someone nearby.

I prefer recruiting locally. I use the scouting services. Potential is the key.

I just looked at this, I have never seen a player this big at a d3 school in any of my worlds but my backup center Michael Furness is huge. He is 7'2 and 258 lbs. http://www.wisjournal.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=0&pid=1364998 . Anyone seen a D3 player that big.

Has he grown into that since he arrived at your school? How many tax dollars are being spent to modify the CG ships so he fits?

bigkap took off to D2, so we have another opening. Sitemail sent to Framingham St coach

yeah I agree with all of the points on recruiting the biggest problem I seem to have is when to quit. At what point do you just cut your losses and go after someone else. Two seasons ago I took my center away from a human coach and dont even know how I did it?? So I tried the same thing here and obviously it did not work this time as I couldnt even get him to glance away from the sim coached team???

That is a hard question, I just stay away from all battles because you never know. If you do not get him to consider you after your visit or a campus visit then stop.

Red- I dont know how much he has grown but I think he was 7' or 6'11 when I recruited him. but not 7'2 or 258

Just got a sitemail back from rolltide08...he already did most of his non-conference scheduling for Season 21. So, unless we find a coach willing to take Washington's spot on a strictly interim basis of one season (as I have guaranteed Framingham St. the spot for Shootout XVI), we may have to go with 11 teams for SO XV and do byes.

If anyone knows a coach in your conference or a friendly rival that hasn't scheduled for Season 21 yet and would be willing to help us out next season, let me know ASAP please

Let me float the idea to the coaches in my conference. I'm nearly certain one will be interested.
