not even fill in the blank?
1/13/2010 11:03 AM
yeah, that would be great. i thought about asking about bios, but then i also thought that there's no way they'd be willing to monitor that. although, patrick, what if there were a handful of trusted owners who could vet the bios first... it would be great fun... ?

But if you set it to 2000, then you're not even allowed to nominate someone with 1950 IP. Have a low threshold for nominations, but a high threshold for voting, and you got yourself a flexible HOF.

And anyway, comparing HBD career numbers to real life numbers just doesn't work. Nobody is effective in HBD at 42 years old. Look how many major leaguer pitchers are still pitching at that age. Not a huge number, but a significant one.

We talked about it and of course we like the idea too, but in the grand scheme of things it will become something we have to police.

I agree that 300 W is way too high. In 14 seasons in Capra, there's only 1 pitcher with 200 W, let alone 300. Pitchers just don't have the long careers in HBD the way they can in real life.

Not done for nothing gb. You did a great job and I enjoy voting every year. Think of it this way. A little less work for you.

will there be limits on the number of players an owner can nominate in a single year?

I was waiting for this one and sorry I didn't lay that out in my first reply.

Each franchise in the world will be eligible to nominate 2 players per season.

Each franchise can vote for a total of 5 players to induct.

the point about the real life HOF #s was to illustrate how low the 1500 IP threshold is...of the 6 guys who didn't make it to 2000 IP, 3 would still qualify in HBD HOF as relievers, 1 isn't in because of his pitching, and the other 2 are pretty special cases

I think the discussions that are taking place now over auto-nominations and minimums will be good fodder for when you actually vote.

That said, maybe the user nomination minimums should be lowered so that some slugs like the guy schedule keeps yammering over would be eligible. Sort of like a Koufax. After all, the owners will still be voting and, with the limits on nominations/votes, it's no guarantee that nominated players will garner more than one vote.

The key word is NOMINATION.

Look at the pile of crap that gets nominated for the MLB HOF each season... Pat Hentgen??? Be serious....

The other tough thing is that the first year of voting is going to be a mess, especially if they're waiving the five-year waiting period. We're gonna have a ballot with 300 names.

It might be better to have ONLY auto-generated HOF ballots for year one, and allow user nominations after that. [that also keeps people in the league for another year if they want some marginal player like Hawk Walker to be voted in]
