The positive numbers are really impressive....

I don't think it is possible to draw conclusions about intent just from the point totals. A comment in the league forum about teams that had been built with intentions toward defense or not got me thinking about this.

Take my team as an example. It's the only one that I can speak of while knowing the intention from the outset. My point totals 22-61-20= -59 may suggest that I paid no attention to defense but that would be a wrong conclusion. I clearly did not factor range as much as I should have. I started with pitching. I spent $43 M in pitching figuring if I could keep teams from hitting the ball it alone would help my defense. My # of errors is below league average (rank 8th) so that thinking worked out a little but it less dollars for position players. I couldn't afford good range with B fielding so I settled mostly with C range keeping in mind that my offense had to be fairly decent for me to reach .500 for the season.

I know that I definitely went all out for range. When I built the first version of my team I had good pitching AND good range. But I couldn't afford both so I cut back on the pitching and hoped my defense would save me.

It really hasn't... we are 22nd in runs allowed. But I only spent 30mil on pitching, which is about 4mil less than anyone else.

That's playing in a hitters park (BoB) and with the 5th best offense. Good to see that at least some of my almost 50mil in hitters went to their bats - mainly Tulo, Phillips and Kelly.

In reality this team is probably a little too unbalanced - hence we aren't winning our division. But we're only 2 games out of the WC so it's not hopeless.

JFranco, you ARE leading your division in points and coupled with the fact you are over .500 this team would be a divisional winner should the season end today. Needn't even look at WC

Division winners are those with the most points and over .500

Someone could have more points but be under .500 then the selection goes to the next highest point total (if over .500)

I know, but if this was a REAL team and not an experimental team, they'd be 2 games back of the WC :)
