I think we have a different idea of "kill".

My guess is your LH 3B allowed 100+ extra baserunners. Again, I think that's pretty substantial.

100+??? If thats true then yeah, kill is right. As a team though, I had a decent season. Had I put a schlub out there at 3b who was all defense and no offense...my team would have been worse off in my opinion as Cook put up a Silver Slugger year at 3b...

Hod Mantei is my current 3b and he is only putting up a RF of 3.67....you saying a difference of 1+ in RF equals 100 runners on base?

1 in RF is 1 play per game, so it's 162.

That analysis still doesn't include the 15 less DP he's turned vs. league average - that's another 15 baserunners he's allowed more than an average 2B in that world in just half a season. Saberists use 10 runs = 1 win in RL.

So lets say he is costing his team 2 wins in half a season....thats only 4 wins in an entire season. I know if you are in a close race for the playoffs 4 wins can make or break you....but that just doesnt seem like a big penalty to me....especially considering we are not weighing in his offense as well.
I agree 4 games doesn't sound like a lot, but that is just one player of nine in the starting lineup and is a measure of his impact on just one facet of the game. If the rest of your team is really good, you can probably hide a bad fielder for the most part but if you have more than one bad fielder or other big weaknesses, those negatives pretty quickly become a lot to overcome.

Yeah. Your guy was making 2.26 plays per game. I'm guessing the league average is closer to 3. .74 x 162 = 119.9

If you give up an OAV of .250, those 119 hits equate to .278(working off 4300 AB). That's rather substantial.

From "paradise by the dashboard light"

"He's gonna slide in head first, here he
comes, he's out! No, wait, safe-safe at second base, this kid
really makes things happen out there. Batter steps up to the
plate, here's the pitch-he's going, and what a jump he's got,
he's trying for third, here's the throw, it's in the dirt-safe at
third! Holy cow, stolen base! He's taking a pretty big lead out
there, almost daring him to try and pick him off. The pitcher
glances over, winds up, and it's bunted, bunted down the third
base line, the suicide squeeze is on! Here he comes, squeeze
play, it's gonna be close, holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!

GIRL:
Stop right there!
I gotta know right now!
Before we go any further!
Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?"

Proof that defense at second base is important - if he had been out at 2nd the rest of the senario never happens
