Tanker removed, reinstated 2 days later Topic

Can't say I'm surprised. Admin did the same thing not once, but twice in Maris...pieo and etp2021 are both known tankers. Both were finally removed after multiple owners complained and both were allowed back in after they complained.

Heres the thing. Bench is a private world. The commish has the authority to not allow the guy back in for next season. Sure it stinks that you'll have to deal with him the rest of this season, but then he'll be gone for good if you guys kick him out.

We didn't have that ability in Maris b/c its public.

Not to hijack this thread, but just to follow up on what bighead wrote. It is sad to see what has happened to Maris. What was once one of the top public worlds in HBD has been reduced significantly. Many rookie or alias owner replaced the 7 long term guys that . There have already been a couple abandonments. Also, Just go and check out the trade history for Season 16...the newbies definitely got taken advantage of. I'd be shocked if that world doesn't have 7 - 10 openings next season after it had averaged 2 - 4 for the last several.

Moral of the story is that Admin just doesn't care. They really don't. The only way to protect your world is to be in a private world with a good commish.

Like we have in Bench ;-) Come join us next season when Poop19 is gone...whoever gets the franchise will be set for a while.

Give that franchise to a fresh noob and let him fritter away the talent. As long as it's not poop19's alias

I think there was a warning sign after season 12. Should have never been allowed back after season 13. You created your own monster.

Looks to me like he's a win or two away from being in compliance with the "fielding a competitive team" rule the last two seasons. I'm still on the fence about this. If someone wants to pay $25 a season to lose, I'm not sure that's not their right. Basically, you have to pay $150 or so to field a good team. And then there's no guarantee you're going to win anything.

That is correct.

I used to have about 9-10 teams, and loved it. Unfortunately I learned then what you learned now: milton7 - who is STILL playing, in L.E.G.(!!), Stickball and Jackie Robinson (aka Rookies World) had an alias IN HIS OWN DIVISION (norman1) in Jackie Robinson and was caught by myself due to his mixup in chat. The site terms state quite clearly that both accounts should be terminated. Instead, Admin let milton7 keep his better team as if nothing had happened, and simply asked the commissioner to transfer the worse team to a new owner. I was incredulous, but that's how they roll.

Since then I have limited myself to playing for 2 commissioners I trust and in Moneyball that has a Veterans Committee in place to approve new owners and discipline existing ones. It's a shame, but it's why worlds like Moonlight Graham and Moneyball have waiting lists and can take seasons to get into.

I think Bench can get to that level once we rid ourselves of sirPOOP.

i have only played for two commishes (randallball and miket) and they aren't afraid to handle league business...they would never allow tanking...and would immediately eliminate any offender...you may be in the wrong leagues my friend...
Great point. I've found that there are so many commishes out there who are so afraid to do anything, allowing the world rule itself as much as possible. If if a commish is just going to let majority initiate rule by vote, then that world probably isn't so much different than a public world

Its not only the fact he was a win or two away from being within the rules. He has several players rated in the low 90's, 80's and high 70's still in the minors while his major league pitching staffs era is around 12.00

I have noticed that the favorite strategy of tankers is to join new worlds, trade away any talent plus tank for 3-4 seasons, then dominate.

Again, he's halfway thru his 4th season of tanking.

Say you caught your wife cheating on you for the 4th time. You've had enough and you pop her one. Do you think the judge is going to be sympathetic when you say "Your honor, this is the 4th time this year I caught her cheating on me. I had to do something!"?
irrelevant.

EDIT: physical abuse of cheating spouse is in no way comparable to booting a tanker. you've made your point about the league doing a crap job of policing. i think the point here is that WIS doesnt back up their own policies. my guess is, even if this was his first season of tanking in that league, admin wouldve done the same thing
No. They would have said 'we do't have enough evidence to boot him'. You lose if you complain early or late. The result will be the same.

I think one of the reasons WIS doesn't enforce these rules is simple economics. It seems to me that the number of new players has diminished greatly in the last year. It's the reason WIS stopped creating new worlds. There is a core of stable veteran owners who are the backbone of WIS, but I don't see a huge influx of new blood. Most everyone who is interested in this type of game is already playing. That makes WIS much more lenient enforcing their own rules for fear of losing business. Personally, while I love HBD, I have a sneaking suspicion that it is not that lucrative an operation for the developers. They just can't afford to **** off paying customers.

Wouldn't ******* off one be preferable to ******* off a dozen?

Bingo...

Although for some reason WIS doesn't feel that way.
