About the same means that countrys that are a little less than you are "About the same".

Comparing as a percentrage of the GDP is the most logical way to examine 2 nations military spending.

Thats right, for all the years we were in Iraq defending our interests and killing terrorist scum we spent about as much as the Obama stimulus package.
You can keep comparing the GDP because it makes you feel better but it doesn't put into focus the obscene dollar amount the US spends on the military.

663 billion spent by the US in 2009, more than the next 16 countries combined.
Defending our interests or the oil companies interests?
Expressing military spending as a share of GDP still makes our spending look obscene. No other Western nation is within spitting distance of us, nor is China. Our "peers" on a GDP% chart are the likes of the Sudan and Yemen. We spend on our military like we're a Third World dictatorship.

Of course, expressing it in raw numbers makes it clear that we spend an order of magnitude more than any other country on the planet. Either way, it's disgusting.

Lastly you r sooooo good at spinning Swamp, the numbers don't lie the USAspends 63 % more then the rest of the world PER GDP and you can't admit that is significant. Like I said before would you take a 63% cut in your wages? And why not it is about the same according to you?

now you have your researched proof. And I am doing this research on my cellphone on the greyhound!!! LMAO seriously Swamp, do your own research!!!! LMAO actually this isn't funny at all unfortunately too man Americans are just like you, they believe the revisionist history lessons that the big media sources tell you without even thinking about going online to get the truth... It is actually very troubling that people like you have so much voting power.

Comparing the world total by GDP is laughable. Single nations come out right. Russia 3.5, US 4.3 seems like a logical balance.

Also 2008, the stats year, is a bad time. We were in 2 wars and the rest of the world was cutting back. The following chart shows that were are spending very littel on our military in an historical perspective.

http://www.truthandpolitics.org/military-relative-size.php#gdp-graph

Even at a time of economic peril and global war we are spending very little on our military.

As I said earlier, or maybe in another thread, If Obama wants to cut the military let him propose it, and defend his decision. Clinton used gutting the military to acheive economic success.

Why aren't you on board with cutting military spending?  In another thread you said you want the government to stop spending, seems like the military should be the first to get the axe.

Where do you want the government to stop spending?
9/28/2010 11:53 PM
I have said that if Obama believes that the only cuts he can make are from defense he should propose it. Clinton really got the economy moving by gutting the military.

Where to cut....

I have named some places in the past (Education, Energy, EPA) but the point is the government is fat.

There are departments that handle groups, like Native American Affairs, and departments that handle things like housing. So an issue with Native American housing has 2 groups handling it. We need to find soemone that isnt tied to the system to go through the books and cut all the redundancy.

We need to get rid of all the waste in Medicare. Politicians are scared of it so no one examines it. Between the simple overspending and state abuse of the system we go through a lot of money. Obamacare isnt looking to address this.

We also need to make sure that who decides what to spend isnt the same department that benefits from it. Army corp of Engineers build dams, and decides if they are needed.

I could go on all day. The Government is like a teenager with a rich daddy. It has no idea how to stretch a dollar.

The answer to squash the deficit is simple.  raise corporate taxes to the same level as the individuals.  Corporations currently pay such crazily low taxes it isnt even funny.  They can afford to pay more money into the massive maw that is the US gubment.
This way the average citizen doesnt hurt at all.
And maybe just maybe the corporations can look at it as the cost of doing business in the worlds biggest economy... (well not for long)

So you own a business. Your company makes money and you pay high taxes on it. Then you pay yourself, out of the taxed money and get taxed again. Then you buy something with the money and it gets taxed again.

The answert o squash the deficit is simple. Spend less.

Well since you don't want to tax anyone, the government won't have much to spend.

Again the only way that the left has to defend itself is to claim the right wants to stop all taxes and eliminate all government.

The government is way to huge. In the amount it spends, the mount it taxes and the amount it impacts our day to day lives.

We want a return to sanity. Limited Government!

funny how you keep claiming the right wants limited government when under Reagan's administration the government just exploded and Bush II just added to it.  and both of those numbskulls would stop all taxes to the rich, if they could get away with it.

And as I have always said spending comes from the House, as per the Constitution.

The Debt has always skyrocketed when Democrats control the house and maintained while Republicans control the house.
