In fact, you should WANT to play the guy you were 1-9 against.     The more you play, the more likely you are to go .500 against him.  You'll probably sweep him.

Leon Spinks should have demanded another fight against Tyson.   He'd have won that 2nd one to make his record .500 against Tyson.

Just read the first post and wanted to add my 2 cents in, so apologies if this isn't relevant....but I don't think it's tanking.  Tanking is a Big Picture Relevance word.  It's a down with the ship type of metaphor that tries to throw away the season for long term gain.  Jostling for position is different, would require a different term and IMO, there's nothing wrong with it because it'll probably bite you in the *** as much as it helps you.

I'm still shocked the Lennox Lewis wanted that rematch with Hassan Rahman.

Huh. I guess you're right. Since he was clearly the better fighter according to every measure except head to head record, it probably was a good idea for the rematch.
