Additionaly, we haven't heard from the most important person in all of this, magracefan. Does he have a particular grievance is this issue? If he's okay with the reading of the rules and agrees that beirnej1 and abfball60 have rightfully made this deal, then we should just drop this and move on.

Maybe "come back to" wasn't the term I was looking for.  I meant "agreed to".  The beirnej1 pick is #9, and the magracefan pick was #10.

This is frustrating only because I feel less and less like I have a leg to stand on argumentatively but still feel in my heart that this isn't right.
This is true, and that's the difference between a trade being officially agreed to and just being discussed. Parties involved might feel that they were wronged and refuse to deal with each other in the future (much like I think the Yankees feel in the Cliff Lee deal) but legally there is nothing that can be done. The Yankees weren't able to petition to the commissioners office saying that we had a deal agreed to and Cliff Lee should be removed from the Rangers and awarded to us, but they can chose not to negotiate with the M's in the future.

The difference is nothing was ever given to the commissioner in the Yankees case.

There was no malice in what I was trying to do. I was not trying to bend the rules on a technicality. I was trying to negotiate with multiple owners over a busy holiday weekend. One of them jumped the gun and sent you a sm about a potential deal that hadn't been fully negotiated and ironed out. That's all.

Let me talk to magracefan before I do anything.  But just let me add this:

1.  I probably would have interpreted your sitemail as an offer.
2.  If you were negotiating, don't use the word "offer" when the commish asks you what happened.   If you had used the word "negotiation" instead of "offer", you probably could have saved me a few hours worth of argument today.

Let me think about this.

No matter what happened, whether ethical or not, as the rules are stated, just sending sitemails to the commish isn't an official trade. It has to be posted in the trade thread and confirmed to be official. Even though the trade was posted in this thread by beirnej1 and posted again by abf in the trade thread it isn't technically official until posted and confirmed by both in the trade thread.

OK, I think the arguments have been made on both sides.  I am listening to those who disagree with me and I am considering all the issues.  If you have something else to say, sitemail me.

I just finished reading up on everything from my phone...took a good 10-15 minutes lol- I appreciate you getting my back on this gumbercules however, I have to agree with the rules of the league. When I sitemailed my confirmation it was "pending biernj pick" as I knew the offer was condition on a player being available. I only did it that way because I knew I wouldn't be on the computer at all today and didn't wanna hold the draft up waiting for me to confirm a deal. I have no hard feelings toward afball...and I will be back to make my pick in a couple hours. Just wanted to post this in here to get my side of the issue. -magracefan (chargingryn)

OK.  After reading all the facts I am going to allow the trade between abfball60 and beirnej1.  The pick of Palmeiro is official.  Magracefan (chargingryno) is on the clock.

I appreciate everyone who participated in the discussion (except maybe kneeneighbor).  I welcome different points of view because I understand that I'm not perfect and at the end of the day I'm just trying to do the right thing.  I didn't see anything really off topic or personal attacks, so I have absolutely no problem with discussion.

gumber, I think I speak for everyone when I say that the time and dedication you poured into this league is unparalleled in WIS. Most of us have no idea how many hours you put in throughout the bidding process. And we are indebted to you for your service. I’m glad we were able to have a constructive dialogue without things getting personal.

One point that needs making is that this situation, and the two days of intense debates that ensued, highlights precisely how much we all care about this league. These types of discussions don’t often happen in progressives. Here’s to hoping that this enthusiasm and intensity carries forward over the entire 11 seasons.

I would have to agree. I run a couple of leagues so I know the hard work that goes into being commish and the work that this one takes is far and above anything that any of those require... Thanks!

Wholeheartedly agree with that entire post, my friend.  Again, I'm just trying to do right by you guys and I'd much rather have what happened yesterday than total apathy.

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.  I had posted from my phone and put the trade in the wrong thread.  I actually had forgotten about the trade thread until last night while reading this thread.  Sorry again

As much as I hate to agree with coldfeet, I did call kneeneighbor on it.
