Kent Sterling wrote, "There isn’t a single school looking for a coach who wouldn’t crawl from their campus to Hinkle Fieldhouse over broken glass for a chance to hire 34 year-old Brad Stephens."

Sterling goes on to say that Stephens won't leave.  He's well-paid and Indy is his home town.  He quit a well-paying job at Eli Lilly to take an unpaid position at Butler.

A more interesting possibility is: Will Butler stay in the Horizon League?  I'd think the Atlantic-10 would love to have them. It'd give Xavier and Dayton another nearby rival and Indiana is a basketball hotbed.  And what conference wouldn' love to have all that tourney cash that Butler's hauling in???
Considering Brad Stevens turned down Oregon last year, it's hard to imagine he is going anywhere any time soon.  Butler is an awesome job if you appreciate the intangibles it has to offer, and he is making a lot of dough.  He wouldn't have signed a 13-year extension to turn around and bail right away.

I sure hope Butler stays in the Horizon League.  They have great rivalries with Milwaukee and Cleveland State and Wright State and Valpo.  They already play Xavier every year anyway.  I would prefer to see them stay and the Horizon League continue to improve, which I believe it will.  I could see how, though, in terms of budget Butler would fit better in the A-10 than in the Horizon.  They have to change the name of the A-10 though.  It's gotten past the point of ridiculous with 14 teams and maybe more added.

Not saying that it cannot happen, but lots of schools can buyout his Butler contract.  I just do not see Crean moving on.  He finally has some in state talent coming to Bloomington.  I think he has two more years to prove his worth.  If the Hoosiers miss the dance after that I could see some cries for him to leave.  It does not help though to have a small school from Indy making multiple final fours while your team sits at the bottom of the Big 10.

For the past few years I could hardly watch the Hoosiers as it was like watching the JV vs. the varsity.
Indiana alums are their own worst enemy.  They need to do some sort of ritual to expunge the ghostly shadow that Bobby Knight has cast over the program and find the faith to stick with Tom Crean for a while.  If they chase him away too soon, they will just keep repeating the cycle of disappointment.

bernie at the PD is reporting Painter to Mizzou. But rivals is saying no confirmation, expect an answer before the end of the day. As a MU fan, i love getting a huge coaching and recruiting upgrade over mike anderson for about the same cash.
I respect how hard Matt Painter's teams play and the recruiting job he has done, but he is not a particularly smart game coach.  I have hardly seen a more dumbfounded look than the one on his face as Purdue got wiped off the floor by VCU.  Painter made no adjustments whatsoever to stop the basic VCU half court attack (which was supposed to be a weakness).  He's a solid coach, but I am sure there are better ones out there.

Very good chance my cousin is getting the job at Oklahoma.  Gregg Marshall.
That would be a good hire for Oklahoma.  Gregg Marshall was very impressive at Winthrop and is having a good season at Witchita St,too. They in the finals of the NIT.
Can't blame Oklahoma, but it would be sad for Wichita State.  Marshall barely just rebuilt that program and they could have a nice run if were stay.  Those fans deserve a great coach.  WSU has some of the best fans anywhere.

Dayton's Brian Gregory to Georgia Tech?

I believe Dayton has finished higher than seventh in the A-10 once in the past six seasons.  Interesting resume for an ACC job.
Tech isn't a good job anymore, at all.
Hewitt really deserved to get canned. His teams were unwatchable.  Even if Gregory seemed to never quite get over the hump at Dayton, at least they were entertaining. I give him an even chance of reviving GT.

Wyoming has hired Larry Shyatt.  For the past 7 years, he's been the assistant at Florida.  He coached at Wyoming in 1997-98, taking them to the NIT. Then he was at Clemson for 5 seasons.

I'm all for Missouri and Oklahoma holding a job fair in a Kansas City hotel this weekend.

Bring in about a dozen coaches, representatives from MU and OU could each bring duffle bags of cash, and go home happy once they get a couple coaches to agree.

That's a hell of an idea, and if I'm not mistaken it's the same exact way that iguana got his MSU gig.

Matt Painter and Purdue have reached agreement on a new 8-year contract, according to the University
Youknow what's funny. Wikipedia page on Matt Painter said Purdue and Painter signed an 8 year contract, before the news actually broke out.

Better job then Missouri or NC State, IMO. Not sure how much they can pay though. (If it's true)

Paul Lusk, assistant at Purdue, has accepted the job at Missouri State. His predecessor, Cuonzo Martin (now at Tennessee) was also a Purdue assistant before going to Missouri St.
