I think the libbys are missing the point. 

swampy rants against Obama on youtube and people say "Who the hell is that fat ****?" and dismiss it.

Damon rants against Palin and Damon fans say "Oh, he's so dreamy.  I loved him in Bourne Identity.  Palin must suck."

See the difference?

And they gave it to me in 1987.

I was torn between:


A) How many Cracker Jack boxes did you have to go through before you got that as a prize?

B) You do realize they just gave you a degree just to make you go away, right?

C) A friend of mine once found a discarded medical diploma in an alley, but he doesn't practice medicine.

That's a stretch Swamp.

The more reasonable view is to take the Wilsons at their word.  It would be up to you to back up that assumption.  You could be right, but since the assumption is yours, you should be able to provide reasons why that assumption can be valid.

My only problem with all of this is that the Wilsons sold their recording.  Are they (and others) saying that people can't play their purchased copy of recorded music at events, rallies, parties, etc.?  That's probably worth discussion.  Does a painter have a right to tell someone they cannot display their purchased copy at a venue or event of their choosing?

Suppose a photographer shoots and sells a photograph of beautiful scenic countryside.  I'm a business owner; I like the shot, purchase it, and then display it in my lobby.  The photographer hates my company because I'm a not "green" enough corporation.  Does he have a right to tell me where I can display my rightfully purchased item?
Just because you bought a recording, doesn't mean you can use it for what you want.  If it's being used for advertising or in the course of promoting your business, at the least you must pay another licensing fee(to BMI or ASCAP etc), and the person/company that owns the rights to the music, has every right to tell you that you cannot use it to promote yourself.  It's the way it works in the recording world.

Not just the recording industry. A photograph displayed in a lobby is on private property and would be fine. A photograph on the front page of a newspaper, or used in an ad campaign, would be a public use and would require purchasing its rights.

I'm not sure having a degree makes one more qualified to comment on current events. 

Of course, I'm not sure what that has to do with opinions.  Everyone has the right to an opinion.  Knowledge on the subject matter should determine to weight of it.

I love semantics. It allows you to ignore the real point and talk about some linguistic trick.

Since it seems that the only reason a person would think that Obama would make a good president is his college education I guess people should have picked McCain.

At least Palin has done something in her life!

Obama was handed his state Senate seat. He won the Senate seat without a shot being fired. He never really had a job that had any kind of standard of performance. So take away school and what has he done.

Palin fought for everything she got.

Beauty Queen
PTA
Husbands business
Mayor
Governor
Head of Alaskan oil and gas Commission

She went out and took on life.
