Pie's Pro League- Drafting Topic

Food for thought: Not that we will do this idea in this league but.... A Wild Card Player (WCP) to help out with mins., help with rebuilding, and probably help with tanking.

Wild Card Player- Everyone would get to draft/keep only one WCP on their roster at a time. A WCP can be drafted in any round you choose for your 12 player roster. You cannot cut or trade a WCP so they will play for your team their full sim career including IR/missed seasons til they are retired no exceptions. When they are retired you can draft another WCP for your team. Retired Wild Card Players will be blacklisted and cannot be used again as WCP's after they retire but they will be available in the draft their rookie season. You must make sure your Wild Card Players tenure with your team won't progress into the natural progression of the league. For example: If you draft Jordan you must make sure he will retire from your team before the 1984 draft, his rookie season. Rebuilding & mins wouldn't be an issue with this rule and tanking would be less likely also.

The WCP rule would make the draft and this league extremely fun and interesting but like I said it's food for thought.......

I actually love this idea but I'm not sure anyone else does but it will be fun hearing your opinions/comments on this post......

Snydpie, I'm in. I have some questions though, let me formulate them and then I'll ask. Skypilot is in also. Sounds pretty cool. Get back to you in a day or 2.

Oh I'll come out of the "San Diego Arena", call team "San Diego - Board Lords". Don't know what the Seattle arena is called but skypilot will undoubtedly come out of there.

Seattle Supersonics are already taken so I guess we will see what team/arena skypilots wants.

I'm not locked into Seattle if skypilot wants it I'd go with K.C.-Omaha, Milwaukee, San Antonio, Utah etc.  anybody but Portland! LOL

Im thinking somewhere around 17000 mins.  It will allow to "tank" but not egregiously.  What do you think?
Sounds worth trying to me, in the spirit of good faith experimentation.

Are you suggesting that only teams with less than17000 mins are eligible to be in the 6 team random draw? If so I'm ok with it if everyone else is but what if there aren't 6 teams under 17000?
1/8/2012 4:27 PM
No they must have over 17000 mins to be eligible for the lottery

To get this league off the ground someone will have to carry 2 teams.  I'l take two and will try to recruit down to one each.
How does that sound?

Then what about the teams with less than 17000 mins? I'm just tryin to understand the reasoning or logic behind this rule before I commit to it. Teams that don't have these mins are going to be punished and they are already weak teams so why would we want to drop them in the draft?

We definately need recruiting since it's so difficult to fill an nba theme league. I don't mind if we have 2 teams if we cant fill this league quick enough. Im tryin to contact the sim to see if they will give us somethin to use as incentive to join this league, like maybe free teams to owners who stay in the league for 5 straight seasons every 5 seasons or somethin like that anyways.

Its their responsiblity to keep their mins up. Maybe we can allow a pass for the first year. Otherwise they will have the first pick after the lottery. Your thoughts?

to me 17000 is pretty minmal amount especially in this type of league. if your dropping below thes mins.  either your ignorant or purposely tanking.
premium def. players usually have lower minutes and the early year players avg. 40 to 50 with plenty of mins.17k is a good benchmark.

I like the 17000 rule so lets go with it and we will have a better idea what our mins will be after the 1st draft, What about teams that have high salaries and underachieve?
