So I will make jb's point for him since he might not be watching this thread. In Allen, he has Kentucky at an A prestige, and had 5 opening this period, and probably had $90k-95k.
He had to spent 90% of that on 1 player, 40 miles from him, to defend against Duke, 400 miles away. Crazy? Not in the Allen ACC where 56k in recruiting money was a down year. Where "only" 4 teams made the Elite 8 this year. I'd be frustrated as hell at the game too if I were him. No was a 3 scholarship team should be able to push an A school around when at that kind of disadvantage. Worst part is duke signed 2 5-star recruits, Kentucky won the battle and signed only 1.
Well, to be fair, he did win the battle, Zephier was 70 miles away from him and I had 4 openings, not 3.
But just to play devil's advocate, this only got everyone riled up because it involved Allen's ACC - which is everyone's favorite boogeyman. If this was an A school trying to get a B+ school's recruit long distance (and remember everyone A+ has a significantly wider range of values, and Duke has a very high A+, so the difference was definitely greater than between an A and A- for example), and be willing to take a walkon and risk getting poached in order to spend 83% of their budget on a single recruit, this wouldn't be a thread. But since it involves Allen's ACC, it is a demonstation of everything wrong at DI.
Congrats to jbas for winning the battle and an even bigger congrats for having the balls required to battle an ACC school. If more teams stood up to us, or beat us in the tournament, we wouldn't ride over Allen.
