I think Cleveland could have kept him if they actually put together a competent roster around him.

The rotation the final season in Cleveland was Shaq, Jamison, Mo Williams, Anthony Parker, Delonte West, Varejo, Hickson, and Moon. No one wants to sign up for for 6 more years of that turd sandwich.

The people who want to believe LeBron was jerk about the situation are those who believed he owed the Cavs something, and the fact is he owed them absolutely nothing. LeBron was going to be LeBron no matter what team drafted him, if anybody owed anybody anything then it was Dan Gilbert who owed LeBron. LeBron singlehandily made the Cavs relevant again, carried them to the Finals, carried them to #1 seed in the East twice, despite not playing with anybody who would be confused with an all-star at the time they were on the Cavs.
I don't think he owed the Cavs anything. I think he also was a jerk.

He really had a **** series...look at that awful game 5....a 32 point blowout at home tied 2-2.
Bad series, doesn't mean he quit on his team. Game 5 was really bad, nobody can deny that, but game 6 he played as hard as a human can, he just didn't shoot well and turned the ball over too much, but he still had a very good game.

Lebron never quit in that boston series. If you watch the tape it was pretty much 1 on 4... what else could he do? You can't drive against 4 people. Mo Williams couldn't hit a shot. Antwan Jamison couldnt hit a shot. Booby didn't even play much if I recall, No one was scoring on that team but Lebron.

Lebron played through his contract. He didn't leave before it was done or request a trade as Carmelo, and Paul did. It's reason enough to think he didn't want to return seeing that he never signed an extension or accepted a new contract. What team lets a contract expire without not having a clue their main guy wants to stay and play? I don't know if he was offered an extension or a new contract but it usually happens within the last year or two of the contract.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the decision other than Lebron is the only player that actually merits a "decision type" event. Maybe Dwight if he every got to the end of his contract. He did it, YOU watched it, and it's over.  Dan Gilbert looks very stupid  +10k.
