you forget one important thing - I've been there - I lived and worked in Singapore and Hong Kong during the transition in 97 and was one of the first retailers to operate at the opening of Chek Lap Kok airport and I travelled widely in the region

and oh, I just stepped outside and it's my "opinion" that it's not raining, and also I still don't see 'hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrant children'

Can't tell how much illegal immigration is going on locally. Midland has always been an oil town tower of Babel. To give an example, on one memorable Sunday I heard:

1.Texlish. (Cant call it English)
2. Spanish
3. French, and Haitian creole.
4. Nahuatl Common enough around here.
5. Swahili Couple in an Indian restaurant at lunch- I asked them because even I couldn't place the language.
6. Turkish -but from a fellow employee.
7. Aramaic
8. Wolof, I think. I heard a guy on a phone speaking French to some one and his native African language to the guy with him.
9. Korean
10. Burmese
11. I am guessing Yoruba from a church group in a Hotel meeting place. Heard the drumming and got curious.

So if you see more foreigners it means nothing locally. (Once in a blue moon I will run into a Russian oil guy and speak to them. They are always very surprised and pleased when anybody speaks Russian.)

However:
There is serious **** going on here. Fema just opened a1200 bed facility in Andrews, a town of maybe 20k population, to house illegals. And that is a drop in the bucket. I think underlying everything, is that world wide inflation in food prices is starting to tear things apart. Notice that most of the illegals seem to be older than children but too young to work full time, and I suspect their families see the moment when they just can't feed them. Also, you never used to see multiple ICE vehicles in town but now you can see little convoys of them going every which way.

Oh I don't doubt there are issues (like I said, I live in Los Angeles) especially as close as you are to Ciudad Juarez but this whole Ted Cruz "hundreds of thousands" histrionic nonsense in Breitbart (which is the origin of all this btw) is a joke

robo, you should see the videos coming out of mclelland, texas... border patrol puts them on buses and ships them wherever they want to go (city manager interviewed, the things he said, how the money is coming from washington), or the border opatrol agents pay for the bus tickets, or gives them food and shelter. the total count (just in mclleland since june 21st... 27,031 illegals).

did not start with ted cruz... sheesh... started months ago by obama's executive order.

Also, when I was younger I could drive to UT each Fall and from here to Austin not see a single State Correctional Facility. Now Texas has like 128 or so. More or less one for every three Counties. And many Counties in Texas are basically unpopulated. At least they finally closed Dawson state Jail (2200 inmates) but only because it was sitting on some prime downtown Dallas real estate. (seriously, it was two blocks south of the Dallas Museum of Art.)

But things are mushrooming out geometrically- they are refurbishing the Big WWII camp outside of Waco that housed German POW's. The Air Force bases, Sheppard, Goodfellow, etc, are just getting filled up with "temporary" inflows of illegals. It is beginning to look like a humanitarian catastrophe, but I am a pessimist by nature. likely that things have their own inertia and it will stop as suddenly as it started.

that because correctional institutions are a big business
6/27/2014 10:59 AM
there are 16 FEMA camps for every FEMA REGION. just got back from florida (west palm beach) also saw 2 barbed wire compounds, newly constructed, no one inside of them. strange site indeed... in the middle of of milk and honey land. doubt if it will all stop suddenly. anyway, have to return to florida in july for two weeks. will look out my window then.

nah, they got all the money they need now

aha! knew it!  you're spewing the party line about a president who actually deported more people in his first term in office than Bush did in both terms combined - typical GOP double speak and delusion (and FYI the "hundreds of thousands" bit is note for note from Cruz as brought to us by Breitbart whether you realize the original source or not)

the real problem is that a do nothing congress has failed to pass the immigration reform bill that had passed in the senate last year
6/27/2014 11:06 AM
meanwhile will you make your pick?
6/27/2014 11:07 AM
ok now, so about that trade....

tarheel - Joakim Noah, Mookie Blaylock, Andre Drummond, Carmelo Anthony

what do we think?
