120M 12 x 12 Draft, League 1 Topic

I remember we had the same problem a few years ago last time we had a theme where everybody nominates a player. too many bozos on that bus too, changed the intent of the theme. it seems offensive to stash high salary worthless players on the bench I don't like playing that way.

I would recommend that before you get too deep into the draft, that you map out who you are targeting (both drafted players and teammates) and keep a close eye on your salary cap. $120M gets eaten up fast, especially with some of the dead weight everybody will ultimately have to roster. This draft is a balancing act of trying to roster the best players while maintaining enough cap room to be able to roster those players. Flexibility is critical as many players that you want will undoubtedly get taken.

This draft is more about avoiding who you don't want than picking who you want. The dead weight effectively lowers the cap to where plenty of players are available as teammates. I never expected to see a Screw Your Neighbor league when I signed up for WiSC.

Have to agree with rbow here. Not a huge fan of rostering a bunch of albatrosses (albatrossi, albatreese?). This doesn't have the feel of WISC theme.

Oh well though it is what it is.

I don't think of this as a "screw your neighbor theme", where you have zero control of your roster. I think of this theme more as a $100-$105M theme, where each team has holes somewhere, based on which strategy to employ. Those of you that draft high prices studs early will end up with lower quality teammates, while those who grab the cheap unusable options early will have better quality teammates to choose from, but aren't getting the stud seasons of the nominated players.

The nominated player process somewhat determined which direction you ended up going. Those who drafted Walsh, M.Brown, etc. pretty much knew you would be drafting late in each round. Some of you drafted a cheap guy with a stud teammate, giving you an advantage in the draft order. And a few of you went the "kill the salary cap" route by nominating useless expensive players with only a few cheap seasons. All three strategies can and have worked.

The 12-15 season restriction makes it difficult for the lower end of the draft order to compete with the top end....we all can't draft Ed Walsh unfortunately. The easiest way I figured to be able to compete with the guys who were getting stud pitchers was to eat up their cap with a guy like Terry.
