i listened to most of suitable for framing...a lot of good songs.....not finished.....naturally was a jump the shark.....a great novelty song and the rest sounds like they have been listening too much to john kay...some of the songs are presented so seriously and earnestly that it reminded me of beatty/hoffman in ishtar..
ill have a lot of nice things to say about suitable for framing....one thing i did like on naturally was the jesse colin young cover - sunshine...done beautifully like a kenny rankin song.

I'm not the biggest Three Dog Night fan but I agree with your analysis. Naturally (and all of the albums afterwards) are not my style. Suitable for Framing is probably the best of the bunch, cover to cover. It's a good play. Too bad their best work was on album #2...that means they milked success for a lot of vinyl. Compare that to The Beatles, who saved their best for Abbey Road, album #12.

im glad then that i chose suitable to listen to...there arent very many artists that have longevity....how many great artists in rock have more then 12 years prime...not alot.

3 Dog Night - Suitable For Framing

a huge commercially successful band in the late 60s into the early 70s i always wanted to hear some whole albums by them.....suitable for framing is a very good album...every song i liked except the last song so it is consistently good........my only gripe is that it could have been great but for the very pedestrian musicianship and production values.......the lead singer can sing a soulful song but he lacks charisma and personality on most songs......it all comes together including vocals on Eli's Coming - a monster song......id still give the album 4 stars/5 but with a better and tighter band it could have been great.
when i was a kid there was a guy on the block named elias..we called him eli....only elias or eli i have ever known.

Been listening to a couple early Doobie Brothers albums. Their 1st album, "The Doobie Brothers" and "What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits". Both have good tracks that are never played on radio.

From the 1st album - Nobody & Feelin Down Farther are especially good.
From Vices - Eyes of Silver, Another Park Another Sunday, Tell Me What You Want, Daughters of the Sea stand out.
