Can you release a player who's going to arbitration right before arbitration hearings with no penalty?
Yes. Just make sure you release and not designate or waive.

Cool. I took over a new team and a AAA player was demanding $5.2M. Didn't want anything to do with him.

If you promote a guy during the playoffs to the ML roster (for the first time) to get the ratings bump, and then you demote him, do you lose an option year? And do players promoted during the playoffs get a free demotion without penalty like those promoted during roster expansion?

I expect you lose the option year but am not sure. Yes, you get the free demotion.

Will the Raiders be as much of a running joke in this thread as they were in the "Ask someone who is (user)named MikeT thread"?

Only if they don't get better.

Would you draft a player with ridiculously high projections at a position of need (with 20 scouting budgets across the board) yet sub-50 health ratings (20 health budget as well) or would you target someone else?
2/8/2019 3:24 PM
For a position player I would barely even consider the health rating.
For a pitcher I would devalue him somewhat-- if his health is 32 or something he's probably going to spend enough time on the DL that he won't fully develop, even with 20/20 health/training-- but I'll just knock him down a couple of points.

IMO the whole point of 20 mil medical is that you don't have to throw out players with low health ratings. And even super high health players can have big injuries. But yes, once they're down around 30 or lower they're going to be on and off the DL regularly.

Where is the legend for all of the abbreviations used in the box score?

I know SB references an attempt to steal (successful or not)
DP = I assume is double play depth
But there are a bunch more I am not sure what they indicate.

SH = Sacrifice hit? (successful or not??)
BH = Bunt hit? (successful or not?)
OD - Outfield deep?
OS = Outfield Shallow??
II - Infield In?
CI = Corners In?
HR = Hold runner?
GL = No idea. (guard line?)

I'm sure there are others I am missing.

“May sign if the deal is right. He has been offered several scholarships to play college baseball at a DI school.”

Is there any chance he signs for slot if I don’t budge, or should I assume that I will have to up my offer? This isn’t a first round pick or a guy I can’t do without - just asking for budgeting purposes, as I don’t have a lot of prospect money left.

There is some percentage of a chance he’ll sign. I’ve had it happen.
Keep in mind you get a Type D comp pick next season if he’s a first, second or third rounder. I’ve received a comp pick for a second rounder before.

I love players like this because you can get them later in the draft and you can actually make them exceed their projections when they get injured due to their medical.

The trick is trying to figure out when to injure them if you are a playoff contender. (Obviously there is no way to make sure they get injured but if you play them more there is more chance they will get injured) typically you want them to get injured at the start of the season, then be back for a playoff run or the end of the season when it counts.

Jair Sanchez was my pet project for that and it worked well. Had to break him a bunch but his ratings got waaaaaay over what they were projected to be.
