Take Two Draft - v2 (w/Blacklist) Topic

Martin is an interesting choice. I feel confident no one else would’ve taken him, so doesn’t hurt any other owners.

Then I’m probably not interfering with anybody’s plan to select Bill Bagwell

I’m actually fascinated by these picks. Is there something I’m missing? They don’t really take advantage of the exclusivity factor and scrubs are easy to find when completing rosters? Is it simply about greater flexibility in roster construction?

Happy to comment on this after the draft is over.

Yah, i have the same question. Maybe their perception is that doubling up on one player is inherently sub-optimal, since no player has two "ideal" seasons that are markedly better than the mostly-open draft pool. Even so, it seems to kinda defeat the purpose of the theme, which is to see how well you can build a team with 2x2 exclusives...

Perhaps in future seasons we can set a minimum salary for each drafted player.

Can’t blame people for using different strategies within the rules to try to create the best team. No guarantee that strategy will work. But yeah, I think a minimum salary might be a good idea next time.

I'm definitely not blaming anyone. If they feel it gives them an advantage, all power to them. I'm curious to hear the rationale after the draft.

That being said, there is merit to todd's point about maintaining the spirit of the theme. I'll have to give it some thought.

There were low salary picks in the first version, too. At the end of the day, you still have 21 open spots to fill regardless. But an interesting future twist might be a minimum amount you have to spend on your two hitters and two pitchers combined (maybe $30M?).

All the low salary picks in Season 1 were usable players though (stud relievers). I'm fine with that strategy, as they are difference makers and their selection impacts other owners because they can't use them after the draft.

That being said, I'm going to withhold any further comment until I hear the strategy behind skunk's and ozo's selections.

We are not having much luck keeping this thing moving

Common theme with a lot of drafts lately. I respect that people have busy lives, and I do too. But if you commit to a league, I think it's only right to follow through and keep in touch with a commissioner unless you are experiencing a genuine hardship or emergency.
