two "players" Shohei H Otani and Shohei P Otani
Unfortunately, after looking into this it sounds like getting two versions of the player isn't going to be happening. Trying to add the player with the same name to the database would cause issues with stats. Also, not many themes allow clones. So, I regret to inform you all that there will only be the one version of Ohtani :(.
Like others have mentioned - I don't have the code nor do I claim any knowledge on the subject of coding...

however, it seems that you may be looking at the issue under "how to give one player two seasons - one as a pitcher and one as a hitter" versus just looking it at as putting up separate players -with two separate player ID's - the hitter version of Ohtani and the pitcher version.

Not coded both as the same guy but exactly the same as there is a Catcher for LAD named Will Smith, and there is a pitcher for ATL named Will Smith. It seems reasonable to assume that you'd be able to create a hitter for LAA named Shohei Ohtani and a pitcher for LAA named Shohei Ohtani - and they do not need to be linked in any way.
I agree completely. It seems to me WIS is overthinking this and missing the obvious fix.

Without seeing the code, I think the easiest would be to code similar to what already exists with Abner Powell and just code the hitting season as a Combined Season and the pitching as a Partial season and then it can keep the same player ID and wouldn’t require creating a new player ID

Just make two player IDs. It's so simple a caveman could do it.

Pretty frustrating that WIS is taking this position on one of the most popular players in MLB; almost certainly the AL MVP. It's almost like they don't want to attract new players.

Just had an OL team finish where I used some 2021 batters:

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
.342 /.431/.550, 38 HR, league-leading 199 RBI

Rafael Devers
.310/.362/.517, 30 HR, 152 RBI

Marcus Semien
.297/.346/.492, 33 HR, 162 RBI

Salvador Perez
.304/.353/.488, 33 HR, 115 RBI

Bo Bichette
.321/.356/.450, 21 HR, 107 RBI

Home park was Yankee Stadium III, and the top three batters in the lineup were high OBP guys (1954 Ashburn, 1893 McGraw, 1886 Gore) which accounts for the rather high RBI totals.

There were two other Vladdys in the league, and they put up slash lines similar to mine:

.356/.441/.549
.350/.428/.522

Would be interested in seeing other 2021 player stats, if anyone's got any to post...

I had a full 2021 team that just finished. We were 82-80 - with many highs and lows. My pitching started really well - and I even posted about Stroman and Manaea in a different thread due to their low $/IP and how well they were performing. The last two weeks of the season, however, they came back quite a bit. Offense started off really slow, but then had a couple guys finish with decent numbers. Overall, I was disappointed in this team. Some decent performances but SLG was way down. Home park was Shibe Park:

I have a 2nd 2021 team just over 100 games in, they're currently 56-50. I used Shibe park again as I ran these two teams mostly to test and see where base performances could lay. Almost a complete opposite experience to the one above - offense started off on fire - and pitching was getting shelled. They've both mellowed a bit, but this team looks to be performing a bit better at this point.

My $80M 2021 theme in 2021 yards wraps in a week. When they're dumped into Performance History I may list some early results of most expensive and/or most used. Your guess how well it plays against the other 136 years of historical players and parks, although at the high priced end even full-time bats aren't too expensive, but buyer beware in this age of SP IP/GM shorter outings.

Just saw this. It would be relatively simple to even isolate Otani's hitting stats when he pitched vs. when he was DH/OF.

Two people, two different stat lines. Seriously, it's just like creating a "fake" player with a new set of stats. An intern on a TRS-80 could probably do it....

Other pay platforms separate them. Free ones also. I could have MadBum or Waino as just a hitter. How do the other guys do it ? What's the minimums or benchmark or baseline in determining using a player as either/both ? As a consumer, not my problem, only that it's possible. Ohtani is used as a combined player or option for either discipline practically everywhere.
